After a fierce showdown with Rayla, Soren and Claudia argue about the best way to deal with the princes. Rayla worries she's kept a secret too long.
Tropes in this episode include:
- Almost Holding Hands: Callum arranges his hand, watching the shadows so that he appears to be holding that of his crush, Claudia. She looks at him, and he quickly moves his hand away.
- Almost Kiss: Callum and Claudia are moments away from kissing before Claudia starts to feel guilty about the situation and tells Callum that King Harrow is dead.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: When Callum interrupts Rayla, Soren, and Claudia to stop the fight, each has a complaint. Rayla complains that they attacked her, Claudia complains that Rayla kidnapped him and Ezran, and Soren complains that Rayla kicked mud in his face and some got in his mouth.
- Call-Back: In the pilot, when sparring with Soren, Callum tries to "sweep the leg", only to have Soren step on his sword, pinning it to the ground. In this episode, Rayla tries a similar tactic against Soren, with similar results, at first. Soren still ends up on his back seconds later.
- Cassandra Truth: Rayla knows Soren is up to no good because he lies about King Harrow being alive and tries to arrange an accident for Ezran, but since she isn't willing to tell Callum about the former and the latter is just a suspicion, Callum isn't willing to believe either he or Claudia would do them harm since he's known them far longer than Rayla.
- Cuteness Proximity: Claudia is immediately taken by the cuteness of infant dragon Zym, complete with giant heart eyes.
- The Dark Arts: Discussed. Callum is uncomfortable even talking about dark magic and Lujane considers it not even real magic but "atrocity". Claudia explains that humans weren't born with magic but they were still able to learn how to do amazing things. Dark magic is just one more tool to help them.
- Deliberate Injury Gambit: Claudia tries to put a sleep spell on Rayla. Realizing what is happening, Rayla quickly grabs a nearby rose and presses her thumb against one of its thorns, using the pain to dull the sleep spell's effect.
- Eye Scream: Viren's True Sight potion requires him to put drops of black liquid in his eyes which cause incredible pain.
- Failed a Spot Check: Viren was so fixated on the mirror that he failed to notice that with his True Sight serum, the frame was glowing purple.
- Girls Stare at Scenery, Boys Stare at Girls: During their date, Claudia is amazed by the ruins and asks Callum to close his eyes like she does, but instead he looks at her all the time.
- A Handful for an Eye: Rayla tosses mud into Soren's face after Claudia heats up her swords to disarm her.
- Internal Reveal: Callum learns from Claudia that the king is dead.
- Make It Look Like an Accident: Soren tries to kill Ezran in a Zipline "accident" by using a loose peg that one end of the rope was tied to. Thankfully, Rayla saw through his attempt and threatened him with dying to the zipeline itself to make him hammer the peg in more securely.
- Moral Myopia: Soren calls Claudia out on getting mad at him for lying to the princes when she regularly kills innocent creatures to power her Dark magic. Claudia just shrugs.
- Mundane Utility: Claudia uses dark magic to make (delicious) pancakes.
- Not a Morning Person: Claudia needs her coffee-like brew before she is able to listen to Soren's plan.
- Rage Against the Reflection: Viren yells at the mirror when his potion of True Sight seemingly reveals it isn't special at all. Its all but said his scorn is actually directed at himself.
- Record Needle Scratch: The sound effect when Rayla interrupts Claudia's Cuteness Proximity rapture for the dragon king.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Claudia asks Callum about his relationship with Rayla, he hems and haws and says that she is just an assassin, who is his friend, his assassin friend.
- Strange Minds Think Alike: Soren and Rayla's reactions to Claudia doting on Callum? Ugh.
- Tantrum Throwing: After a True Sight potion fails to divine anything from the strange mirror, Viren snaps and trashes the room, starting a fire. He regains his composure and snuffs the fire out with magic, which causes the mirror to project another location.
- Wingding Eyes: Claudia's eyes become heart shaped the moment she sees the recently hatched Zym.
