Ronnie Anne is excited for the perfect Christmas, but visits from the neighbors put her dream Nochebuena on hold.

"A Very Casagrandes Christmas" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Your dream holiday may not go as planned, but what's important is spending it with those you love.
  • Artistic License – Biology: The moths that ate Mr. Nakamura and Cory's sweaters are shown to be adults. In real life, only the larvae moths eat cloth.
  • Balloon Belly: Buttercup has one after eating all of the snow that’s keeping Arturo, Ronnie Anne, and Bobby trapped in the store.
  • Big Ball of Violence: Arturo uses one to travel through the store due to the craziness of holiday shopping.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The Casagrandes, along with their neighbors, come to the Hi ‘N’ Buy to save Ronnie Anne, Bobby, and Arturo.
  • Blob Monster: Arturo turns into one after being covered in masa and then falling in the store fountain.
  • The Cameo: The Louds make a cameo appearance at the end of the episode.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: While stuck inside the store, no one can call for help because Arturo and Ronnie Anne’s phones are both dead and Bobby’s phone, while charged, is locked outside.
  • Christmas Episode: This episode is about the Casagrandes going out to celebrate Las Posadas before coming back for Christmas celebrations. This excites Ronnie Anne since they're all together for it. However, they then have to deal with their friends and neighbors whose plans were all ruined in some way.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Happens to Bobby when Mr. Nakamura and Cory go to the Casagrandes apartment after moths started eating at their Christmas sweaters; these same moths eat Bobby's pants, exposing his Christmas boxers!
  • The Comedy Drop: While trying to help Hector up off the floor, Ronnie Anne takes his feet and Bobby takes his head. When the doorbell rings again though, Bobby lets go and drops his head back onto the floor with a thud.
  • Disaster Dominoes: In the Casagrandes’ very crowded apartment, a chain of disasters is set off: a piece of pizza falls from the ceiling which Vito slips on and causes him to sit on Nico’s tail who jumps up and rips Carlota’s papel picados and then jumps on the Christmas tree, which causes Maybelle’s Christmas Mango ornament to go flying and hit Carl’s pinata which bursts candy everywhere.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with everyone laughing after Arturo loses the "dibs not" challenge to gather more masa for Rosa's tamales.
  • Food Fight: Carlos and Maria start a masa fight with each other while helping their mom with the tamales.
  • Freudian Slip:
Carl: One second! I’m just rig - ah, I mean, finishing the pinata.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Hilariously, Becca calls their pets by their full names, “Nicholas and Cameron Chang”.
  • Human Snowman: Bobby gets so covered in snow during his snowball fight with Becky and Ricky that Ronnie Anne thinks he’s a snowman at first.
  • I Can't Believe I'm Saying This:
Rosa: There’s just too many tamales to make! Ay, I never thought I’d say that!
  • I Got a Rock: The last time Bobby and Ronnie Anne celebrated Las Posadas with their father, Bobby ended up getting oranges and peanuts instead of ice cream like his sister.
Bobby: I mean, I love a good orange but come on! It’s like getting raisins on Halloween!
  • Manchild: Once again, Carlos and Maria act like children in their sibling squabbles. This time, Maria throws masa dough at Carlos, who tells Mama on her.
  • May I Borrow a Cup of Sugar?: The Changs knock on the Casagrandes’ door and ask to borrow an entire Christmas Eve dinner.
Sid: We were just wondering if we could borrow a cup of milk…and some potatoes, a whole turkey, and a tree might be nice!
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Bobby and Ronnie Anne call themselves horrible people when they see that the very neighbors they basically kicked out still came to save their lives.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The second half of the episode starts when Ronnie Anne and Bobby notice that their father isn't responding to her texts. The reason being is because he got locked in the supermarket.
  • Retail Riot: Right as Arturo is about to get some onions for the tamales, an announcement comes over the intercom announcing a flash sale on that very product and the display gets swarmed by rabid shoppers in a Big Ball of Violence. Arturo is left with his basket stolen and covered in scrapes and bruises. He later has to go back to the Hi ‘N’ Buy to get even more supplies and has to fight through an angry mob with a shopping basket as a helmet.
  • Roadside Wave: While out walking his dogs, a car drives by and splashes Vito with snow.
  • Running Gag:
    • Bobby playing his guitar and singing lyrics matching the circumstances of his and Ronnie Anne's situation.
    • The Hi ‘N’ Buy employee keeps announcing over the intercom that he’s excited to get home to his turkey…oh, and his family.
  • Sacred Hospitality: When the neighbors' Christmas plans get ruined in some way or another, Rosa decides to let them stay over for dinner and is disappointed in Ronnie Anne for thinking they shouldn’t.
  • Saving Christmas: Ronnie Anne and Bobby decide to fix their neighbors’ Christmas plans to get them out of their apartment so their family can all go out for Las Posadas together.
  • Senior Sleep-Cycle: The papel picado Carlota makes of Hector shows him sleeping in his armchair as usual. Then, as the family gets ready to go out for Las Posadas, Hector is fast asleep in a wagon so they can take him with them.
  • Snowball Fight: Becky and Ricky throw snowballs at Bobby and Ronnie Anne for wrecking their snow people.
  • Snowed-In: When a snowplow drives past the Hi ‘N’ Buy, it blocks the entrance with snow and traps Arturo, Ronnie Anne, and Bobby inside.
  • Sticky Situation: Arturo gets stuck in a huge sticky pile of masa and Ronnie Anne and Bobby have to pull him out.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Buttercup the chihuahua becomes much bigger after eating a tunnel through snow.
  • Tongue on the Flagpole: Bobby gets his tongue stuck on a lamppost when he slips on an icy sidewalk, rams into some snow people, and slams into the pole. This, along with Ronnie Anne ripping him from the lamppost, renders him temporarily unintelligible.
  • Wimp Fight: Carlos and Maria get into a slap fight after they both Speak in Unison trying to be the first one to volunteer to help their mother with the tamales.
