Recap / The Bridge Bonus 12 Christmas Special 2016: Mirror Gigan "Saves" Christmas

Go To

It is Christmas season in the Mirror Universe, human version of Maretropolis. Gigan, a rude, destructive, uninhibited anti-hero from the Nebulan Confederacy, falls through a portal from Zenith into an alley. He has the ability to break the fourth wall, and curses the author, Tarbtano, for dragging him into this adventure. His body transforms into a human, dressed like a biker, with P.T.R.U-A, the serial code from his creators, tattooed onto the sides of his neck.

Ignoring the cold and the odd looks from bystanders, he marches into a mall and confronts a female clerk. He projects a hologram of the Mane-iac and asks where he can find her. The clerk gets excited and asks how he got such a clear image of her because the newspapers have been trying to get a shot of her for a while. He says he doesn't care and just wants to know how he can find her. She says no one keeps track of her and she only shows up when there is trouble. He looks around and grins, saying he can do that.

The cosmetics CEO Marilyn "Mica" Hackett responds to an alarm from a computer in her bunker garage. She turns on the news and sees a report that a mysterious man is filling the mall with holes via energy attacks. There are no confirmed fatalities but the police can't even get near the assailant. Annoyed that this attack is happening now, Marilyn changes into her Mane-iac costume and drives off in her car, Black Beauty, to save the day once again.

Don't laugh.

Gigan sits on the fourth floor, bored and asking what is taking so long. The inside of the mall is filled with holes and scorch marks from his laser vision, but he was careful not to hit any support beams so that the building would not collapse. He gets slightly embarrassed when he ends up covered with soot. Mane-iac arrives and leaps out of her car, using her momentum and her prehensile hair to quickly reach the fourth floor. The defender of Maretropolis wears a costume with an inverted color scheme from her villainous counterpart, as well as a mask, scarf, wide-brimmed hat, and utility belt. She uses a device to shut off the lights, then clocks Gigan. He quickly recovers and activates his infrared vision to see. He says he's actually here to talk, but she kicks him. He gets excited at her strength and decides he'd like to fight after all. She notes that he's made of metal, which means he'll survive if she does this, then knocks him out a window.

Crossover fight time!

She follows him down and they clash, going back into the building and eventually going to the roof. They are both scuffed up and bleeding a little. She ties him up with her hair and demands to know what the Malice Mares are planning, having assumed that the villains sent him as a distraction. He says he has no idea who she's talking about, then comments that he's glad he's wearing sunglasses because she can't tell where he is looking and he really appreciates the view, hint hint. She starts blushing, then angrily chokes him with her forearm and says he will pay for the property damage he caused. Unconcerned, he comments that there is a bomb inside a present under a certain outside Christmas tree. Shocked and deciding she can't risk ignoring this, she releases him and rushes to the location he pointed at. He teleports to catch up to her and points to the present. She opens it and indeed there is a time bomb inside. She quickly pulls several tools from her utility belt and works on disarming it. Several curious bystanders gather around to watch. Gigan calls them stupid and fires a few warning shots with his eye beams to get them to leave. Mane-iac disarms the bomb. He congratulates her, but asks why she would bother protecting these idiots. Offended, she says it's the right thing to do.

The pair examine the bomb after noting with the amount of C4 on it, the explosion wouldn't have been very big. Mane-iac finds a capsule with liquid inside and is shocked when she recognizes the chemical. Gigan vaporizes it with his eye beams. She says if the bomb had gone off, everyone on this block would have been exposed to the chemical. He says he didn't plant it, he saw it with his x-ray vision while he was knocked out the window. She suspiciously asks if he's using that right now, and he says he can't confirm nor deny that while staring at her breasts. She angrily puts him in a headlock and says he's going to help her find all the other bombs the Malice Mares must have planted in the city. He nonchalantly agrees, and when she is surprised, he says his boss ordered him to help her anyway. She asks where he came from, and he says he's from another dimension. She's met beings from other dimensions before, including her pony counterpart, so she's inclined to believe him.

Gigan attempts to hop into Black Beauty, but Mane-iac presses a remote and he gets knocked out by an electric shock from the car. She handcuffs him behind his back and shoves him into the passenger seat, then drives off. He wakes up and is surprised to find he can't break the cuffs. She says those cuffs are designed to hold the super strong Saddle Rager. She apologizes but she doesn't trust him, so he's staying locked up until this is over. He just smirks and says this is kinky, annoying her.

Several hours later, Mane-iac has disarmed all but one of the bombs at Gigan's direction. Throughout their road trip, he keeps talking about his life story, annoying her. He then asks about her story, wondering why she's covered with burn scars. She gets upset that this confirms that he used his x-ray vision to see through her clothes. She orders him to keep his eyes forward, then explains that she was pushed into a vat of chemicals. He's tempted to peek at her anyway, but he gave his word that he wouldn't and he never breaks his word. Anyway, she was the CEO for Hackett Cosmetics and Industries. One day, she noticed that some of her products were going wrong. Shoddy design, certain mixtures not being in the right containers, even some unsafe trace chemicals that were bleaching people's skin or dyeing their hair in extreme cases. After narrowing it down to one factory, she investigated and found that the group of supervillains lead by the Masked Matter-Horn, the Malice Mares, had taken it over and imprisoned the workers. They were using the factory to produce chemical weapons. They caught her and attempted to dispose of her by throwing her into a vat of chemicals. After they left, she emerged, now with enhanced physical stats and prehensile hair, but also with chemical burns over most of her body. She became a superhero to battle the Malice Mares, but always covers up her body completely to hide her scars. Gigan scoffs and says he doesn't care that she's scarred, she's hot with a well toned body. She just gets irritated.

About time you showed up, Mane-iac.

They arrive at the site of the last bomb, the town square, and Mane-iac steps out of the car. She wonders why this place is so empty, and cautiously throws a collapsible baton. It hits a tripwire, then miniature bombs filled with paralyzing gas start exploding everywhere. She attempts to retreat back to the Black Beauty, but four of the six Malice Mares attack. The super fast Fili-Second litters the ground with broken glass and caltrops, limiting where she can move. Saddle Rager presses a dial on her wrist that pumps anger hormones into her, causing her to turn into a hulking behemoth, then rips out chunks of metal and concrete and throws them. The weather-controlling Zapp fires a lightning blast at the snow, and Mane-iac only saves herself by jumping onto the car so the tires block the electricity. Finally, Masked Matter-Horn makes her entrance by leaping from a building and making ice pillars to slow her fall. The four seek revenge on Mane-iac for arresting their comrades Mistress Marevelous and Radiance. It made them look bad and caused the people to fear them less. Mane-iac asks about the bombs and why they are filled with the same chemicals from the factory. Masked Matter-Horn explains that they are in far higher concentrations, so anyone who is exposed will go insane.

Enraged at the thought of the citizens being subjected to this, Mane-iac throws a few smoke bombs and attacks. She knocks Saddle Rager down with martial arts and throws some metal debris at Zapp, causing her to accidentally electrocute herself. She attempts to attack Masked Matter-Horn, but Fili-Second blitzes and punches her several times. Dazed, she can do nothing as Saddle Rager lifts her by the hair. Fili-Second and Zapp grab her arms and Zapp holds a lightning blade to her throat. Masked Matter-Horn strokes Mane-iac's cheek, then tears open her costume near the hip and strokes a scar. The villain says she should be happy, once the last bomb goes off, the city will be full of scarred freaks just like her.

Masked Matter-Horn attempts to pull off Mane-iac's mask, but Gigan suddenly teleports out of Black Beauty, now free from the cuffs. He says while this is really hot, it's time to stop them. He quickly cuffs Masked Matter-Horn and blasts her through a window. Mane-iac takes advantage of the distraction to break free. Gigan switches his hands with his hooks and takes on Saddle Rager while Mane-iac takes on Fili-Second and Zapp. Gigan dodges Saddle Rager's attacks and stabs her, but since the comic is Rated A, it doesn't work, angering him. Mane-iac uses a smoke bomb, then tricks Fili-Second into attacking her hair, managing to grab her and quickly knock her out. Enraged, Zapp fires several lightning blasts.

Gigan and Saddle Rager are both really roughed up. He spots a nearby hearse, and after Tarbtano confirms that there's only a dead body inside and no one living, he throws it at the hulk of a woman. She catches it, but then he blasts it, causing it to explode in her face. Dazed and weakened, she attempts to power back up by reaching the dial on her wrist, but he steps on her hand and knocks her out.

Mane-iac is dodging several lightning blasts. She tries throwing a bolas and to lasso Zapp with her hair, but Zapp blows them back. Suddenly, Gigan blasts Zapp with his eye beams, eventually shooting her down. Zapp emerges from the rubble horribly burned and furious, then fires a lightning blast. He counters with his eye beams, but she absorbs some natural lightning to boost her power and wins the beam struggle, sending him flying. He loses his sunglasses and his left arm breaks off. He turns his right arm into a mace and launches it on a chain, but Zapp dodges it and it embeds itself into a wall. Mane-iac uses the chain like a tightrope to run up and punch Zapp, then wraps her in a metal bolas. Zapp tries to blast her, but her restraints attract the electricity and she knocks herself unconscious.

Mane-iac checks on Gigan and he idly comments that his busted arm hurts like Hell and he laughs. She cheerfully laughs with him, the first time since this adventure that she's been happy, and the two sit in the snow celebrating their victory. The moment is spoiled when Masked Matter-Horn emerges from the building she had been thrown into. She used a combination of extreme heat and ice to break free from the cuffs. Her outfit is ragged and she's absolutely furious that her team has been defeated. She fires a massive wave of ice at them. Mane-iac grabs Gigan and retreats back to the Black Beauty, then activates its heat shield. As they hide behind the car, which slowly gets pushed back by the ice, Mane-iac explains that in spite of Masked Matter-Horn's powers, she's not suited for hand to hand combat, so if they can get near her, they can beat her. Unfortunately, Gigan is too damaged and drained to use either his teleportation or his eye beams. He spots a store and gets an idea, telling Mane-iac to keep her busy while he runs to it.

Mane-iac gets past the blasts of ice and fires a sonic weapon, bringing Masked Matter-Horn to her knees in pain, but the villain fights back. Meanwhile, Gigan absorbs metal and equipment from the home and garden store until his nanobots can convert it into a double chainsaw for his left arm. Mane-iac wraps the villain in her hair, but Masked Matter-Horn grabs her by the throat with one hand while preparing to fire an ice blast at her gut with the other. The villain monologues, "Knew you'd come running once you found what was in the first bomb. Think of it this way, your company will have a lot of business when the big one goes off and makes a thousand more freaks like you, all those poor souls wanting to look presentable again. You could merchandise your outfit."

Gigan arrives and starts sawing through the ice with his chainsaw. The distraction allows Mane-iac to get free. The two double team her and eventually, Gigan holds his chainsaw to Masked Matter-Horn's throat, forcing her to surrender. Mane-iac cuffs her with special restraints that nullify her powers. Gigan asks if Mane-iac has ever seen her enemy without her mask. However, Mane-iac doesn't care and just walks past her to disarm the last bomb. Masked Matter-Horn is shattered at the notion that her enemy thinks so little of her, then Gigan knocks her out.

And to all a good night.

A few hours later, in Mica Hackett's residence, the two rest and watch a news report on the battle and how all members of the Malice Mares have been arrested. Gigan gets bored and changes the channel to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, annoying her. Mica wears nothing but bandages and a bathrobe, and for the first time, she's not ashamed to expose her scars. Gigan is still in his regular outfit and is eating metal to regrow his arm after removing the chainsaw. He thanks her for letting him stay here until his boss recalls him. She says as much as she hates to admit it, they made a pretty good team, and she's willing to work with him again. She falls asleep, for the first time at peace.
