Recap / The Brady Bunch S 3 E 23 The Fender Benders

Tropes present in this episode:

  • Courtroom Episode: Harry Duggan suing for damages and dragging the Bradys into court.
  • Hilarity Ensues: Mike's tactic – throwing a suitcase onto the floor in front of him – to startle Mr. Duggan and expose his injuries as fake doesn't even draw so much as a rebuke from the judge – instead, the judge points out to Mr. Duggan that he's been exposed and that he was dismissing his claim. In the real world, Mike would likely be restrained by several bailiffs and led out of the courtroom in handcuffs, possibly charged with terrorism (or failing that, in the very least contempt of court) quicker than it took Mr. Duggan to even begin to acknowledge the sudden, loud sound.

  • Obfuscating Disability: Mr. Duggan faking his neck injury.
  • Offscreen Crash: Except only the aftermath is shown, what with the dented rear fender of the Bradys' station wagon and Carol and three of the kids (Marcia, Bobby and Cindy) remarking what had happened. It's established that the parking-lot collision had happened beforehand.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: What Mr. Duggan pulls in order to hopefully get Carol in trouble. It doesn't work.

How well does it match the trope?
