Go To

R&B sensation Pretty Boy Flizzy (Michael B. Jordan) is arrested for armed robbery and while he's in the town of Woodcrest, district attorney Tom DuBois agrees to be his lawyer in exchange for advice to help in his marriage to his Caucasian wife, Sarah.

Episode Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Despite being the season 4 premiere, this episode is focused heavily on Tom and the Dubois, while the Freemans' involvement in this episode is relatively minor.
  • Berserk Button: Sarah's is when Tom apologizes to her.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tom gives Pretty Boy Flizzy quite the beatdown near the end of the episode. Even Sarah is surprised by this.
  • Call-Back: Pretty Boy Flizzy recalls how Tom was part of the R. Kelly case all the way back in Season 1.
  • Character Development: Tom undergoes a lot during this episode.
  • Intercourse with You: A lot of Flizzy's songs are sex-related. One example is "You make me want to uhh".
  • Jerkass Ball: Sarah grasps this hard in this episode, being angry on how passive Tom is, and even getting drunk and insulting him in front of Jazmine.
  • Never My Fault: Pretty much Pretty Boy Flizzy's response to all the illegal shit he has done is "Man I was fucked up!".
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Pretty Boy Flizzy is basically an Expy to Chris Brown. Christiana is also one of Rihanna.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Tom, of all people, gives one to Pretty Boy Flizzy after being pushed to the edge. He even does it without taking a single hit.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Near the end, Pretty Boy Flizzy expresses his desire to steal Tom's family from him. This leads to the former receiving a well-deserved beatdown from the latter.
  • Recycled Script: This episode has been considered by many to be a retake of "Tom, Sarah, and Usher", as it is centered around Tom and involves Sarah becoming infatuated with yet another famous musician, causing a rift between the two.
  • Shout-Out: Despite being a parody of Chris Brown, Pretty Boy Flizzy's song "You Make Me Wanna Uhh" is one word off of Usher's song "You Make Me Wanna", which is, fittingly, about Usher feeling the urge to leave his current partner for another.
  • Very Punchable Man: Pretty Boy Flizzy. Considering that he beats women just to get more attention in the music industry, it's hard to feel sorry for him when he gets his ass kicked by Tom near the end of the episode and then gets placed under citizen's arrest by Uncle Ruckus.
