Go To

Batman finds himself on the trail of Firefly, a pyromaniac supervillain, while Bruce tries to secure a charity contract with Mayor Grange.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Batman Gambit: Bruce holds a press release that Wayne Industries will release a prototype that will make his company the premiere tech company in Gotham, knowing that GothCorp will send Firefly to sabotage Wayne Industries, allowing him as Batman to take him down.
  • Bread and Circuses: Bruce and Alfred realize that GothCorp's motive for wanting to fund the Children's Hospital was to use the good PR to distract the public from their shady business.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: GothCorp hired Firefly to sabotage the competition.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Bruce sees a news report about the law firm Firefly targeted the night before, and how it was handling bankruptcy cases for other companies Firefly targeted, he realizes that Firefly is working for GothCorp by sabotaging their competition and they wanted to fund the Children's Hospital to distract the public from their illegal activities.
  • Foreshadowing: Bruce mentions that GothCorp is known for some rather questionable business decisions and that it makes little sense they'd want to fund the Children's Hospital.
  • He Knows Too Much: It's implied that GothCorp had Firefly target the law firm that handled the bankruptcy cases of their competition because it was getting too close to figuring out the connection between the arson cases.
  • Hired Guns: Bruce figures out that Firefly isn't an arsonist but a mercenary hired by GothCorp after realizing the companies he attacked were their competition.
  • Mythology Gag: Mayor Grange is voiced by none other than Adam West, who's had some experience with villains before. Also, it isn't the first time he's played a city's mayor.
  • Not-So-Innocent Whistle: The City Council members after the Mayor forces them to hand all of GothCorp's projects to Wayne Industries.
  • Properly Paranoid: Bruce is suspicious of GothCorp due to their bad reputation when they want to fund the Children’s Hospital. He is correct when it is later revealed GothCorp is Firefly’s employer, as he is sabotaging their competition, and they are only funding the Children’s Hospital to draw off suspicion of their unethical practices.
  • Rule of Three: It takes Batman's third battle with Firefly to finally bring him in.
  • So Proud of You: Mayor Grange informs Bruce that his father would be proud of him at the end of the episode.
