Gumball and Darwin run into an endless stream of obstacles when they try to return home from the video store with a saccharine movie Anais wants to see.

- Accidental Pervert: Gumball has to get the DVD out when it's stuck in Tony's butt crack.Tony: Did you just poke my butt?

Tony: Get away from me! - Bait-and-Switch: The DVD gets dropped in a pile of other DVDs. Darwin finds it in seconds, but then accidentally sends it rolling off again.
- Bittersweet Ending: The whole quest was All for Nothing as Anais realizes that she hates the movie. But Gumball and Darwin are happy that they don't have to sit through the movie.
- Cassandra Truth: Darwin calls Anais and tells her that he and Gumball got sidestracked helping a fat guy out of a manhole, but she doesn't believe him.Anais: Why are you late?!Darwin: Heh heh, well, funny story, uh, we were helping a guy out of a manhole—Anais: No need to lie. It's obvious you guys don't wanna watch the movie with me.
- The Dog Bites Back: Darwin kicks Rob into a manhole to avoid an awkward conversation about forgetting his name. The DVD ends up rolling into the sewers and he catches it, but when they forget his name again, Rob throws it away.
- Funny Background Event: As Darwin is calling Anais to let her know they'll be late because they're helping Tony who is stuck in a man hole, Gumball can be seen pulling on him until his arms pop off.
- How Did You Know? I Didn't: Darwin and Gumball try to sneak past Sussie's house party to avoid being invited in, then she opens the door.Sussie: Oh! You came!
Darwin: How did you know we were there?
Sussie: I didn't. I was just practicing my guest welcome, but since you're here—-Oh! You came! - Innocuously Important Episode: This is the first time Rob interacts with Gumball and Darwin.
- Ironic Echo: The Teal Tow Truck Driver who has a crane refuses to help Tony who is stuck in a manhole, telling Gumball and Darwin "You guys are way closer, that means it's your problem." Later on he gets pinned under that same fat man and begs for help.Teal Tow Truck Driver: Oh man, oh please! Aaah! Are you gonna get this off me, or what?
Gumball: I don't know, you're way closer. - "Shaggy Dog" Story: Anais ends up hating the movie and stops it seconds in. However, Darwin and Gumball thought keeping their word to spend time with her was more important, were happy that they didn't have to watch it, and can probably spend their time doing something better.
- Stylistic Self-Parody: Gumball complains that his legs have given up and challenges Darwin to take a walk in his shoes before calling him a quitter. They then switch legs and Darwin is forced to admit Gumball's are much harder to walk with.Darwin: Your legs aren't legs! They're just over-grown toes! Give mine back!
- Suckiness Is Painful: The movie Anais wants is so terrible that a barrier appears in midair preventing it from being checked out. Carrie only gets it through by putting it between her stack of other movies.
- Suddenly Voiced: After having mostly mute cameos in previous episodes, Rob (cyclops kid) finally gets a speaking role, with a voice provided by Charles Phillipp.
- Take That!: A Pony's Tale, a parody of My Little Pony, is so bad a person's body physically and magically prevents them from renting it.
