Gumball thinks the end of the world is coming after a message is spelled out to him through channel-surfing, he sees strange signs (like Gary the Purple Moose shouting "The end is near!" and all the birds flocking to eat Anton), and Bobert tells Gumball and Darwin about an upcoming solar eclipse.

Tropes:

  • Bowdlerization: Cartoon Network Arabia edits two scenes involving Gumball's romantic feelings for Penny:
    • The entire sequence where Gumball tries to marry Penny in the school hallway (with a sunset background and Banana Joe as the minister), with Penny telling him that they're too young and he should try again in 20 years, with Gumball upset that Penny doesn't know the world will (presumably) end.
    • Gumball ranting about how meaningless it is to take Miss Simian's pop quiz is cut to remove Gumball shouting, "Kiss me, Penny!"
  • Carnivore Confusion: Anton, a living piece of toast, is seen eating sandwiches. A flock of birds then devour... his sandwich. And then him.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The episode opens on Gumball and Darwin mindlessly eating junk food and watching TV with red-rimmed eyes. They're clearly sleep-deprived, but the dialogue about not feeling their heartbeats and freaking out over the end of the world is more reminiscent of what happens when most people are high on marijuana.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • Mr. Small briefly appears in the hallway before getting a speaking role in "The Dress" and eventually a name/major role in "The Painting".
    • Karen is briefly seen waiting in line at the store before being given a name and a relationship in "The Laziest".
  • Magic Countdown: The countdown to the eclipse shown makes no sense whatsoever: it starts counting down from 24 hours after recess, indicating the eclipse is at the same time the next day, but the eclipse seems to happen the evening of the same day. Gumball and Darwin get three hours detention between two scenes, but the time shown for both indicate about thirty minutes passing. After dinner Gumball, Darwin, and Richard seemingly rush to get supplies, but the time stamps show it took them eight hours just to get into the car, and it's somehow still day time.
  • Mistaken for Apocalypse: Gumball and Darwin misread a series of coincidences as signs that the world will end during a solar eclipse in 24 hours. Gumball tries to do all the things he always wanted to do, while his father Richard - the only other person to believe them - goes in full survivalist mode.
  • Noble Shoplifter: Convinced that the impending solar eclipse will cause the end of the world, Gumball, Darwin, and Richard raid the local grocery store for supplies... with every intention of paying, of course, but the lines are obscene and the self-checkout refuses to behave. In the end, they charge out the door with a cart full of groceries and throw a fistful of money in the pursuing security guard's face.
  • Noodle Incident: Richard says he's been locked in a port-a-potty before. It also ended with him trying to kick the door and knocking the stall over.
  • Overturned Outhouse: To protect the family from the apocalypse, Richard gets an outhouse to use as a bunker. At the end of the episode, he, Nicole, and Anais are still locked in it (along with the TV). When Richard tries to kick the door down, it tips over and they get covered in toilet water.
  • Race Against the Clock: Gumball, Darwin, and Richard race against the supposed end of the world.
  • Rejected Marriage Proposal: Gumball tries to get Penny (and then Carmen) to immediately get married without the satisfaction of a date because he thinks there won't be another chance, but she points out the obvious problems and invites him to ask again in twenty years.
  • Skewed Priorities: When the "shelter" (portable toilet) can't fit the family and TV, Richard decides he'd rather sacrifice himself than get rid of it.
  • Something We Forgot: After discovering the apocalypse isn't going to happen, Gumball and Darwin decide to watch more TV, forgetting that they left the rest of the family (and the TV) locked in a port-a-potty.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Gumball gets a perm, giving him human-like blond hair separate from his blue fur.
  • Visual Pun: As the moon passes by the sun during the solar eclipse, he says, "You just got mooned!"
Sun: What is wrong with that guy?
  • Writers Cannot Do Math: Nicole says Gumball's grandfather died at the age of 102, and this may have been a while ago. That would mean he conceived one of Gumball's parents when he was in his sixties, which seems rather unlikely. It would have made far more sense to say great-grandfather or even great-great-grandfather. Later episodes completely ignore this line, and we eventually see both of Gumball's grandfathers are alive and only somewhere in their sixties.
