A special "Naming Day" changes everything in Sanctum; Gabriel meets an old friend.

This episode contains examples of:

  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: With their God Guise falling apart, the Primes' backup plan is to seize control of the Eligius mothership, using Raven, Madi, and Gaia as hostages, and wait out the carnage.
  • Broken Tears: Abby breaks down into tears in the opening of the episode after she is led to believe that Clarke is truly dead and Josephine has taken over her body.
  • Call-Back: Abby and Jackson discuss how they don't have a choice about taking Madi's bone marrow, and Jackson brings up how Abby condemned it when he used a similar line of reasoning back in The Gospel of Josephine, as being used by war criminals . She admits it was uncalled for.
  • Character Death: Abby, having injected herself with nightblood to spare Madi, is wiped by Russell, to be used as Simone's new host.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: Having already stolen a Sanctum guard uniform, Gaia discreetly follows Clarke back to the Primes, hoping to free Madi. Unfortunately, Russell recognizes her, though Clarke saves her by claiming they need her as a hostage against Indra.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In order to force Priya to bring down the shield, Clarke threatens to smash the mind drive of her son Ryker right in front of her.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Murphy and Emori are rightfully disgusted that the Primes would wipe and body-snatch Abby after helping them even after "killing" her daughter. They chose to remain behind and save their people despite the possibility they'll be killed which leads to Clarke's So Proud of You moment.
  • Evil Costume Switch: "Josephine" changes into an intimidating black uniform, now that there's no need to pretend to be Clarke. Of course, the irony is that she only gets it when the real Josephine has been purged and it's really Clarke posing as her.
  • Hypocrite: After all of his past preaching against violence, Russell releases a toxin to kill non-believers when the Earth evacuees were genuinely trying to find a more peaceful way.
  • I'll Kill You!: When Abby sees Clarke, who is still pretending to be Josephine, she promises Russel that "[she] will kill [him] for this." Russel clearly believes her threat and, once Abby turns herself into a nightblood to save Madi, chooses to make her Simone's host to prevent her from doing exactly that.
  • Like a Daughter to Me: When reconciling Abby tells Raven that, while she may not biologically be her mother, she still considers her to be part of her family.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Clarke reveals her deception to most of the cast from Earth, but is unable to tell Madi, due to the problem of Sheidheda.
  • Must Make Amends: Abby, likely after the shock of almost losing Clarke, makes amends with Jackson and Raven telling the former he is a good man and that she was uncalled for when she called him a war criminal, and apologizing for disappointing and hurting Raven and telling her that she is family to her. Good thing she does too since she dies not long afterwards.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Gabriel breaks into Sanctum early and lets himself be captured, aiming to sound the alarm before the new hosts can be wiped, only to find out that they've already been taken. Instead, the oddity of his capture clues Russell in that the alarm is faked and calms the crowd before they can panic too much.
  • Offing the Offspring: A variation. After confessing to everyone that Delilah is truly dead, Priya tries to get Delilah's mother to calm down "for her sake." Instead, outraged that she's been treating this monster as her daughter, Blythe Anne stabs Priya dead then cries with her husband over their daughter's body.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: "Josephine" tells Priya that Ryker couldn't wipe Echo, due to losing his nerve. Echo, Gaia, and Miller, hiding nearby, know full well that he's actually dead at Echo's hands, and since there's no reason for Josephine to hide this, it must be Clarke talking. Though, Clarke didn't know they were there, having been planning on blackmailing Priya, but the reunion simplifies things.
  • Sanity Slippage: Madi has almost fully given in to Sheidheda's influence, ranting about burning the Primes, referring to herself as "we", and at one point Sheidheda directly speaks through her. Clarke is clearly heartbroken by this, but can't say or do anything about it without blowing her cover.
  • So Proud of You: Clarke expresses this towards Murphy, after he and Emori give up their shot at immortality to help their friends. This also clues them in that Clarke is back to normal.
  • Something Only They Would Say: When Murphy angrily tells "Josephine" they're staying, she chokes out "I'm proud of you, Murphy." Staring at her in understanding, Murphy replies that "just so you know...Josephine called me 'John'."
  • Title Drop: The "Adjustment Protocol", alluded to in previous episodes, is finally enacted; when the population of Sanctum turns against the Primes, weaponized psychosis toxin is released into the crowd, and they start to tear each other apart.
  • Wham Episode: The relationship with Clarke/Abby, and Raven/Abby comes to an abrupt end when Russell mind-wipes Abby to be used as a host for his wife Simone. In addition, Russell enacts the Adjustment Protocol which makes the people of Sanctum violent and willing to kill one another due to the influence of the red sun toxin
