Plot
Andy Goode calls Sarah to tell her that he has rebuilt his chess computer, writing code from memory, and entered it into a major local chess tournament. The winner gets a military contract. Sarah and Cameron go to the tournamant: If The Turk wins, then Cameron will kill him. The Turk flubs a move in the final round and loses to the Japanese competitior. Sarah finds Andy dead in an office, and gets into a fight with the man she saw fleeing the scene. The man is cornered by police outside and arrested.Cromartie, as Agent Kester, visits Charley Dixon and his wife. He asks a few questions about Sarah but gets nowhere. He leaves.
John is working as a school mechanic; his friend Morris tells him to stop hanging around with his chemistry partner Cheri, as she is 'damaged goods' and her father is very controlling. Cameron is interviewed by the school counselor, un-nerving him with her behavior (and possibly determing that the counselor was sleeping with the student who killed herself).
Sarah goes to meet the man in jail, who had a barcode tattoo on his arm, marking him out as a Resistance fighter. The man says that his name is Derek Reese - Kyle Reese's brother (and therefore, unknown to him, Derek is John Connor's uncle). Meanwhile, Vick the Terminator punches a cop so he can be arrested and taken to the same jail that Derek is in. By the time he starts smashing up the place, Derek is already being transferred by armored car to the FBI.
The trio intercept the police vehicle and free Derek. Vick the Terminator arrives and Cameron slows him down - Vick loses his hand in the struggle. Cameron disables him and removes his chip, but not before The Terminator shoots Derek in the abdomen.
The trio take Derek home instead of a hospital, for obvious reasons but Derek starts convulsing and dying on the kitchen table. John rushes out the door, returning with Charley Dixon.
FBI Agent Ellison finds the severed Terminator hand at the crime scene.
Tropes
- Attack Hello: Vick the Terminator does this to a cop, so that he'll be put in jail and get a chance to kill Derek.
- Cant Get Away With Nothing: John gets Cameron to do his math homework despite him admitting that it's pointless as he has to know it for the test and when Sarah calls her out for not revealing crucial information she says this was what she was busy with. She's also too good for the school counselor interviewing her and guesses he was having it off with Jordan.
- Ear Worm: John likens good computer code to an Ear Worm that gets into your head.
- Evil-Detecting Dog: Apparently even Robot Dogs dislike Terminators as one starts barking at Cameron.
- Get into Jail Free: Need to kill a guy who's just been arrested? Walk up to a cop and punch them in the face for no reason!
- Ridiculously Human Robots: Andy compares the previous version of The Turk to a moody teenager and the new version to a precocious child.
- Shout-Out: The grey T-shirt and long green coat Derek Reese wears looks just like Kyle's wardrobe from the first film.
- Smart People Play Chess: The smartest designers, who teach their very smart computers to play chess, in a tournament.
