Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 5 E 14 Monsters Among Us

Go To

The Turtles and Renet race to save New York from Savanti's army of monsters once and for all.

  • All for Nothing: As shown shortly after they return to New York, the Turtles' efforts to stop Savanti from building his monster army have amounted to nothing; as Leo notes, if anything, the streets are infested with even more monsters than there were before they left.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Savanti and Dracula's armies are able to invade the lair and infect Donnie thanks to April and Casey, who were already vampires under Dracula's command and thus lead them to the lair.
  • Badass Boast: Dracula gives a pretty good one after Savanti sends the Mummy after him following Dracula's attempt to use the Time Scepter himself fails.
Dracula: You pit a mindless mummy against the king of the vampires? Insulting! *Dracula one-shots the Mummy, turning him to dust and bits of bandages* Any more brilliant ideas?
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Savanti and Dracula are able to hash out an equal partnership, since Dracula possesses the power to control their army, but Savanti actually knows how to wield the Time Scepter.
  • Cold Iron: The Turtles and Renet are able to slip away and barricade a door with iron to ward off the vampires. Sadly, it's not enough to keep Frankenstein away.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Dracula attempts to steal the Time Scepter for his own purposes, but it fails because he doesn't actually know how to use it.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: This is how Dracula is able to work his way into ruling alongside Savanti as equals. He possesses the power to control their numerous forces, meaning he could easily have Savanti killed. However, Savanti's technology and knowledge of how to use the Scepter give him the edge.
  • Eviler than Thou: Dracula inevitably betrays Savanti and takes the Time Scepter. When Savanti sends the Mummy after him, he reduces him to dust with one blow.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Dracula is impaled with Donnie's staff and quickly decays into a skeleton, complete with a lovely shot of his exposed muscles.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Mikey is able to kill Dracula by impaling him with Donnie's staff.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Savanti mentions he was punished by the Time Masters for his early attempts to seize the Scepter by getting mutated.
    • Dracula challenges Savanti and takes the Time Scepter to enact his own agenda, but fails since he doesn't actually know how to use it; Savanti meanwhile actually does. It's reminiscent of a scene in the 2003 cartoon's second season finale, in which Ve-Sama attempted to use the Daimyo's War Staff against Drako, but failed while Drako spent years studying how to use it (and both characters would come to wield that continuity's Time Scepter later as Ultimate Drako).
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Dracula sees Savanti trying to fix the Time Scepter, he's furious since they agreed to become a Big Bad Duumvirate. Savanti points out that they can't share their power if there's no Time Scepter, and Dracula begrudgingly agrees and goes off to fight the Turtles.
  • The Starscream: Dracula makes a bid for power, as he seeks to use the Time Scepter to go back in time and infect early humans with vampirism, so that all of humanity will be vampires for him to rule. It doesn't shake out as he doesn't know how to actually use the Time Scepter.
  • The Villain Knows Where You Live: Thanks to the vampirized April and Casey, Dracula knows where to find the Turtles' lair.
