Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 5 E 13 The Frankenstein Experiment

Go To

The Turtles and Savanti both approach Dr. Frankenstein in their quests.

  • Adaptational Heroism: The original Dr. Frankenstein refused to see any good in his creation and never tried to form a paternal bond with it. This Frankenstein is quickly willing to apologize for calling him an abomination and outright calls him his son.
  • As You Know: As with the previous episode, the Turtles and Renet recap the previous episodes of the arc.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Raph under Dracula's control, and later Dr. Frankenstein and Frank.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Leo suffers hallucinations of the three forms of the Shredder attacking him - his human form, his Super Shredder form, and his Undead form; as well as one of the feral mutant Karai attacking him.
    • Mikey is attacked by a hallucination of Pizza Face, though this proves the Mummy's undoing as he realizes it's a fake since he already defeated Pizza Face.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: Donnie decides to help Dr. Frankenstein complete his experiment with the ulterior motive of collecting synthetic blood to try to cure Raph. All it does in the end is give Savanti one more monster to add to his ranks.
  • Pinball Projectile: Leo pulls this off while fighting Dracula, bouncing wooden stakes off the walls.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Igor speaks with a Peter Lorre accent, while Dr. Frankenstein speaks with a rather Vincent Price-esque.

    • While Donnie carts around a cadaver's arm, it flops out and he hurriedly shoves it back into place, referencing a similar scene in Young Frankenstein. Also checking in from that film is the doctor's wild cries of "LIFE! GIVE MY CREATION LIFE!"
    • While fighting Donnie, Raph crawls on the ceiling and twists his head completely around in a reference to The Exorcist.
    • Frank flees up the flaming laboratory, much like a flaming windmill like in the 1931 film.
  • Spotting the Thread: Mikey realizes the Mummy's trick when he's attacked by a hallucination of Pizza Face, who he remembers personally defeating.
  • The Starscream: Dracula is clearly planning to usurp Savanti. Igor is convinced to join Savanti's team after growing jealous of Donnie's work with the doctor.
  • Time Is Dangerous: Leo begins to blab to Dr. Frankenstein that they are mutant turtles from the future, but Renet wisely shuts him up.

  • We Can Rule Together: Savanti's group offers Igor and Frank membership and promise they can rule the world together. However, the offer ends up only holding out for Frank, as Igor is disposed of.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Igor is tossed out of a window by Raph when things hit the fan.
