Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 S 6 E 26 Zixxth Sense

Go To

Torbin Zixx warns the Turtles that an asteroid made of Dark Matter is on a collision course with Earth. The only way to stop it is to steal a Matter Transmitter from a base on one of Saturn's moons. While the Turtles don't exactly trust Zixx, they feel obligated to help him, for the sake of the planet.

This episode provides examples of

  • Batman Gambit: Once again, Zixx enlists the Turtles' help by exploiting their heroic intentions. Specifically, he knew that if he sent a distress call asking them to come save him they'd refuse, so he sent one telling them not to give his captors what they want or come try and rescue him.
  • Big "WHAT?!": The Turtles when Zixx volunteers to sacrifice himself.
  • Break the Haughty: Realizing the Turtles duped him, Zixx loses a lot of his bravado when the crime boss he's been dealing with won't hear any more excuses.
  • Chekhov's Classroom: While studying the dark matter asteroid, Donnie is about to tell the other turtles there's something strange about it only to be interrupted by Zixx announcing their arrival on the Saturn moon Zuko's hideout is in. At the end, Donnie explains that dark matter bends light, which the asteroid didn't, raising his suspicions enough not to let Zixx run off with it.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Zixx describes the matter transmitter as looking like a coffee pot. At the end, Donnie switches it with a coffee pot onboard Bishop's ship.
  • Conveniently Cellmates: The Turtles in Zukko's prison cells.
  • The Dog Bites Back: The Turtles are all too happy that Donatello managed to out con Zixx and get back at him.
  • Exact Words: The episode begins with Zixx doing business with another alien wanting to buy some disintegrating blasters from him. Zixx promptly hands one over so the alien can try it out. The blaster vaporizes into thin air as soon as he pulls the trigger. Zixx even points out he wanted them to disintegrate.
  • Hypocrite: Zixx discovers a crate of ice bombs, which Zuko said he was out of. Zixx calls him a liar and Mikey points out "It takes one to know one!".
  • It Has Been an Honor: Zixx fakes this as part of his con to fly off with the transmitter.
  • Joke of the Butt: When Raph believes Zixx has sold them out to Zukko he says "I'm gonna kick your miserably keister from here to Uranus!"
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After getting away with his stunts twice before, Zixx gets outwitted by Donatello, loses a valuable piece of technology, and ends up in the crosshairs of a very angry crime boss.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Donatello ensures that Zixx loses the prize and has to deal with a crime boss looking to collect a debt one way or another.
  • Meaningful Name: After Zixx seemingly sold out the turtles to Zuko, Mikey quips "You can't spell 'Zixx' without a double cross."
  • Noodle Incident: A subversion occurs in this episode. Torbin Zixx mentions that he lost his spaceship because of an incident that happened to the Utrom ambassador's wife. When the Turtles look at him funny, he simply responds with "Look, was it my fault she was standing near the sushi bar?" It is a subversion because it turns out that he still had his ship and was lying.
  • Out-Gambitted: Zixx was playing the Turtles in order to get the Matter Transmitter, but Donatello pulled a fast one by claiming it had been damaged during the escape from Zukko's base. He used the "repair time" to replace it with a fake (the shuttle's beverage dispenser placed inside the transmitter's case). Then he spun a lie about someone needing to manually activate it on the meteor, knowing full well that Zixx would volunteer in order to run off with the supposed prize.
  • Post-Final Boss: Torbin Zixx fills this role as the final rogue the Turtles go up against. The actual Big Bad of the season, Sh'Okanabo was defeated in the previous episode in a climactic fight with much higher stakes. In this final episode, Fast Forward is wrapped up with the Turtles tricking Zixx and leaving him to his Karma Houdini Warranty without even having to fight him.
  • Properly Paranoid: When explaining his con, Donatello says he found Zixx's claims sketchy from the start.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Stolen MacGuffin Reveal: After Zixx disappears with the Matter Transmitter, Donnie reveals that he didn't trust Zixx and switched it out with the ship's coffee machine.
  • Teleporters and Transporters: The Matter Transmitter.
