Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) S04E28 "Farewell, Lotus Blossom"

Go To

The Turtles are put in charge of guarding The Urn of Chakahachi and the Shredder tricks Lotus Blossom into trying to take it from them.

Tropes:

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Donatello dismisses ghosts as a "scientific impossibility." This coming from a guy who's encountered aliens, interdimensional portals, mutants, actual magic, and a ghost.
  • The Bus Came Back: As the name would suggest, this episode has the return of Lotus Blossom since her debut in "Beware the Lotus".
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Lotus has a horrifying dream of a Pagoda (which is depicted on the Urn), a giant decked in samurai armor trying to get her and the turtles trying to save her.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Rocksteady points out that after lotus takes the Urn, the Shredder will still have to take it from her. Shredder admits that he Didn't Think This Through.
  • Honor Before Reason: The Shredder successfully tricks Lotus into thinking that she is from the Chakahachi Clan and that she is duty-bound to kill the turtles for "stealing" the urn. Not only does she believe it instantly, but she goes full Knight Templar on the turtles for "dishonoring" the clan she had only just learned she was a part of.
  • Idiot Ball: Not only did The Shredder not consider that he still had to steal the Urn himself after he has Lotus steal it from the turtles, but he has Bebop and Rocksteady retrieve it then. He emphasizes to them not to drop it, conveniently forgetting that they're both clumsy imbeciles who've botched nearly every mission he's ever sent them on. If he wanted a mission done carefully, he should have just gone himself.
  • The Jinx: The Urn of Chakahachi seems to induce a passive low-grade level of misfortune into anyone near it. Donatello surmises that the Urn is purposefully trying to break so that it could release its captor.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Urn of Chakahachi isn't an urn like its name implies. It's a prison for the Vengeful Ghost of Chakahachi.
