Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) S03E17 "Turtles, Turtles, Everywhere!"

Go To

Shredder takes over the Dump-1000 to steal turtles until he finds the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, now the turtles need to save their turtle friends and stop the Shredder before being caught by the Dump-1000 and crushed into cubes.

Tropes:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: While clearing away turtles on Dump-1000's control panel so Donatello could reprogram it, April ended up grabbing the turtle device Shredder was using to control the computer, inadvertently freeing it from Shredder.
  • Agony of the Feet: While complaining about being stuck with regular turtles, Shredder gets his foot stomped by a giant tortoise (on purpose?).
  • Cliffhanger: Lampshaded at the end of act 2.
Mike: Oh no dudes, maximum bummer!
    Leo: What a horrible development!
Raph: Yeah, but what a great cliffhanger!
  • Death Glare: The sea turtle gives one to Shredder and his goons while April calls him out.
  • Defiant Captive: April, even after being captured and tied to a chair by Shredder, still manages to get under his skin by her sassy verbal attacks.
  • Exact Words:
Shredder: No, no, no! You're bringing me the wrong turtles!
DUMP-1000: You ask for turtles, I bring you turtles.
    • Later, April tells Shredder the Turtles will arrive any moment. Suddenly, a telephone booth came from the chute, with Donatello trapped inside.
Shredder: You're right, there's one of them now!
  • Heroic Bystander: April tries to stop the robotruck from taking the female sea turtle.
  • Hypocritical Humor: After picking up all the garbage in their lair, when they head out to find the turtle-napping culprit, Mikey throws away a gum wrapper. Then a robotruck comes after them, and after the Turtles take it down they wondered why it was attacking them. Mikey thinks it must have been his fault because he littered. The other Turtles glare at him.
  • Insult Backfire:
April: I should have known you'd be behind his despicable scheme!
Shredder: Flattery will get you... tied up.
  • Just Following Orders:
April: DUMP-1000? What's going on? Why are you doing this?
    DUMP-1000: I can't help it. I'm only following orders.
    Shredder: My orders, Ms. O'Neil!
  • Last of Her Kind: The sea turtle, if she doesn't lay her eggs in time.
  • Pun: When the sea turtle is being abducted, a scientist says that she's "in the soup now".
  • Shout-Out: "Another superhero already owns the patent on telephone booths."
  • Title Drop: "Turtles, turtles everywhere. And not a blasted ninja among them!"
  • Who Writes This Crap?!: Two of the many 4th wall jokes in the episode. First Donatello lampshades the trope when Shredder gloats to Krang about his plan to capture the turtles with DUMP-1000'S robo-trucks. Then immediately after Donatello attempts to reason with Shredder to stop what he's doing, April lampshades the trope as well:
Shredder: (...) Don't you see? When the others come to rescue their friend, they'll be captured too! And then, with all this machinery at my command, I shall be invincible!
Donatello: What a cornball. Who writes that guy's dialogue anyway?
April: Never mind Shredder. We've got to help that poor sea turtle! If she isn't returned to the beach to lay her eggs by high tide, it will be the end of her species!
Donatello: Listen to me Shredder. This insanity has gone on too long! It has got to stop!
April: And he complains about Shredder's corny dialogue?
