Kate Argent, Allison's aunt, arrives in town and is attacked by the Alpha. While fighting it off, she shoots Derek. Now, Scott has to make it through an awkward family dinner with the Argents to get a bullet to save him, while Stiles and Derek attempt to slow the effects of the wound.

Tropes applying to this Episode:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: The show hand waves how an adult male who is clearly showing signs of instability was able to enter a school and confront a student without being stopped by any adults. American schools generally lock all doors and have a single, guarded point of entry to avoid this exact scenario.
  • Aggressive Negotiations: Derek has to continually threaten Stiles' life to keep the younger boy cooperating. It's always couched as "Do X or I'll do Y" and Y is always extremely violent.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Chris Argent tries to intimidate Scott several times.
  • Delaying the Rescue: Despite knowing that Derek has been shot and is deathly ill, Scott prioritizes making a good impression on Allison's family over quickly finding the bullet and getting it to Derek.
  • Fainting: Derek passes out from blood loss and the effects of the wolfsbane.
  • Find the Cure!: Derek needs Scott to find and extract an unspent bullet from the exact ammo set Kate was using. It turns out the only way to cure a wolfsbane bullet wound is to extract the contents of the bullet and insert it into the wound itself.
  • Jack of All Trades: Allison has a box full of creations from various hobbies she's tried as a child. The one she's best at, however, is archery.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: If Scott didn't get the Wolfsbane bullet in time, Derek would have been forced to cut off his own arm to stop the wolfsbane from killing him.
  • Mr. Fanservice: In one scene, Derek pulls of his long sleeved shirt to get better access to the wound on his forearm and prepare for a potential amputation, but the camera seems to focus more on his abs and happy trail.
  • The Reveal: Derek blames the Argents for the fire that killed his family.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: When Jackson (who is roughly 16 in-universe) attempts to intimidate and manhandle Derek (who is roughly 22 in-universe), he fails completely and gets put firmly in his place. Even deathly ill, Derek slams the younger boy into a locker. Jackson is tough for a high schooler, but against an adult male (let alone a werewolf), he's still just a kid.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: There is an up close shot of Derek vomiting black blood.
