Go To

When the Justice League is looking for a new member, they host an America's Got Talent-style show to find someone with enough talent beyond superheroics to join them.

This Episode Contains the Following Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Despite Robin's ventriloquist act mocking all the judges, they found the insults hilarious and sent Robin to the final round, and even selected Robin's ventriloquist dummy as their newest member.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After looking shocked and appalled at Robin's ventriloquist's jokes, the 4 JL judges erupt in laughter and give him a yes for the final round.
  • Big "NO!": Raven lets one out when Trigon tears her dance dress in half.
  • Blatant Lies: Robin's stated backstories get increasingly ridiculous.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Robin's second attempt at an audition is a magic act, but he's disqualified when one of his tricks is to just slip $20 into Batman's wallet and call it a bribe.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: To gain sympathy with Birdarang's audience and earn a second chance to audition, Robin makes one up about growing up on a farm that's now destitute alongside his pappy. He does this again to earn a third chance as "Tiny Robin" son of Bob Cratchett from A Christmas Carol.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Despite having been voted off twice already, Robin manages to make it to the final round on his third try, and even manages to win the competition. Or rather, his ventriloquist dummy wins.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Raven plans to try out with a dance routine, but Trigon is a firm believer that demons don't dance, to the point that he manifests in her dressing room and tears the sequined leotard she was going to wear in half. When Raven repairs the outfit between parts and then puts on a dance involving hellfire, Trigon is marveled by its beauty and has to be warped out when he starts embarrassing Raven.
  • Insult Comic: Robin's ventriloquist dummy roasts the 4 JL judges.
  • Lactating Male: When Beast Boy turns into a cow for the talent contest, he is able to squirt milk out of his udder.
  • Manipulative Editing: Robin declares, "That was edited to make me look bad!" when what he yelled at his teammates a few second ago is played back verbatim.
  • Ocular Gushers: When Robin and Starfire completely muck up their tryouts, they let these loose, which Birdarang films on a special "Cry Cam".
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: Defied by Robin's ventriloquist puppet.
  • Toccata and Fugue in D minor: Background to the second half of Raven's act, by way of electric guitars. (Amongst other accoutrements.)
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Robin goes into wild celebrating when he thinks he won the competition, but Birdarang cuts the celebration short by revealing it was Robin's ventriloquist dummy that was chosen as the winner.
