Recap / Teen Titans Go S 4 E 26 Hot Salad Water

Go To

Robin becomes worried about the Titans becoming mind-controlled by the British after they decide to drink some tea.

"Hot Salad Water" contains the following tropes:

  • Artistic License – History: Robin's story about British colonial taxation is this, especially involving tea. For example, the Statue of Liberty helping save them from England a good hundred years before it was built and brought to America.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: On the former Queen's side, she has Big Ben turn into a mecha. Robin counters with the Statue of Liberty.
  • Banned in China: Although not banned, it was initially being pulled from UK broadcasting, the episode still airs as reruns in the UK. This episode is very controversial and offensive, upsetting both British and American audiences since Robin shows prejudice against British people and favors America. Audiences were also angry about the fact the queen was a villain, which could be considered defamation.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: Robin notices the Titans are becoming Anglophiles after drinking tea (saying words like 'ello, telly, and having an English breakfast).
  • Foreign Queasine: Cyborg making an English breakfast (Eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, black pudding, baked beans, tomato and mushrooms) is this to Robin.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: The Queen of England is the one responsible for flooding the Tower with tea and is planning to take back "the colonies."
  • Macross Missile Massacre: The Queen of England lets one out with a "Biscuit Barrage."
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: The Queen of England is made to look like this next to Robin.
  • Patriotic Fervor: Robin sings a song about America to get the Titans to stop being Anglophiles.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: The Queen saying "That's! Our! Promise!" before colliding into a billboard.
  • Title Drop: Starfire's description of tea is this after Cyborg describes how steeping tea bags works.
  • We Will Meet Again:
Queen: You won again, America, but we'll be back! That's! Our! Promise- [collides into a billboard]
