Rapunzel tries to restore her parents' memories.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Accidental Discovery: Varian doesn't realize he accidentally invented strawberry-flavored taffy through his failed cure attempt.
  • Almost Kiss: Frederic and Arianna goes to kiss, but are interrupted by King Trevor.
  • Bittersweet Ending: More sweet than bitter. Herz Der Sonne's journal has been destroyed. But the king and queen's love for each other has been renewed, as they recognize they love each other and their daughter dearly, and remember some things from their youth. What's more, Rapunzel makes a new Book of Hearts so they can start making new memories together as husband and wife.
    • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Arianna and Frederic starting to remember their younger years as lovers gives the family hope that their memories are returning and will completely return in due time.

  • Chekhov's Gun: King Trevor's sea jewel is actually a sea serpent egg.
  • Chekhov's Skill: King Frederic's egg collecting hobby proves vital to figuring out why the sea serpent is so aggressive.
  • Covered in Gunge: Varian's attempt to restore the king and queen's memories through science ends up covering Rapunzel in strawberry-flavored goo. Twice.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: It is shown here that for all his buffoonery, King Trevor can be surprisingly capable and competent when he needs to be.
  • Evil Laugh: Subverted with Varian trying to restore the king and queen's memories at the beginning. The rather devious cackle he emits was really from Ruddiger tickling him.
  • Jerkass: The royal pain King Trevor is back for thirds.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Even after his Pet the Dog actions below, King Trevor returns the Diary of Herz Der Sonne to Rapunzel... to gloat that it's been soaked beyond repair. He may not have soaked it himself, but it's still mean-spirited to rub into someone's nose that their kingdom's historical artifact is ruined forever.
Eugene: Maybe he does have a heart. (Sees the book is ruined) Then again snakes have hearts too.

  • Left the Background Music On: In the end as Rapunzel and Eugene write their page down in the new book of hearts, we hear ukulele music as they share a kiss...then the camera pans back to show Pascal playing it.
  • Loophole Abuse: Queen Arianna's marriage to King Frederic means King Trevor can't marry her without violating Inter-Kingdom Law. Under the pretense of seeing sea serpents, he lures her into international waters outside Inter-Kingdom jurisdiction.
  • Mama Bear: When Trevor's seals hit Rapunzel's ship, causing it to go down, Trevor mockingly says that he and Arianna have to return to Equis only to be punched by the angry queen for putting her daughter's life in danger.
Arianna: Nobody messes with my daughter!
  • Married at Sea: King Trevor attempts this with Queen Arianna, taking her beyond Corona's borders under the pretense of seeing the sea serpents. She rejects him.

  • Monster Is a Mommy: A sea serpent kept attacking the cast relentlessly, and nothing seemed to work. Turns out the sea serpent was attacking because it was trying to get its egg back, which Trevor thought was a rare sea crystal.
  • Noodle Incident: Why was Ruddiger crawling in Varian's shirt in the beginning anyway? Was he looking for something, or deliberately messing with Varian?
  • Old-Fashioned Rowboat Date: Rapunzel tries this as one of her matchmaker plots, getting Lance to do the rowing and music for atmosphere. It ends up being ruined when King Trevor sideswipes their boat and knocks King Frederic overboard, and gets sick.
  • Opposites Attract: Frederic and Arianna start to remember that in their youth, they had been total opposites when they first fell in love.
  • Pet the Dog: King Trevor rescues Rapunzel from the sea serpent when it's made clear he won't be winning Arianna's heart. What's more, he actually sounds legitimately touched when he realizes the depth of Frederic and Arianna's love, invoking a I Want My Beloved to Be Happy vibe.
  • Pun: Trevor is still keen on his seal puns. This time he has his Navy Seals.
  • Serial Escalation: Rapunzel makes a presentation of what will happen if the king and queen separate. It will make other couples break up, then there will be war, then Earth will explode.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Just because Queen Arianna lost her memory doesn't mean she's so naïve that she wouldn't notice what a pompous jerk King Trevor is.
  • Wistful Amnesia: When King Trevor tries to marry Queen Arianna, she rejects him, even if she doesn't remember she's married to King Frederic.
