Recap / Tangled: The Series S2E20 "Lost and Found"

Go To

Finally having escaped from the House of Yesterday's Tomorrow, Rapunzel celebrates Eugene's birthday. They are interrupted by the arrival of Madame Canardist and Vigor, who give them a fortune reading that has them go to a hidden maze where the final piece of the scroll is hidden. Only Vigor can lead them through.

Tropes in this episode:

  • A Birthday, Not a Break: While Rapunzel only spontaneously declares the day to be Eugene's birthday, they still have more of an adventure on that day than they initially expected.
  • It Only Works Once: Demanitus' spirit takes over Vigor in order to help Rapunzel and Eugene in their quest. When questioned why he never came out sooner, he replies that the spell putting him in control can only work once and lasts just a few hours. Once it wears off, his consciousness will be completely swallowed up by Vigor's, effectively trapping his mind forever.
  • Mood Whiplash: Right after the shocking ending, it cuts to the cheery end credits.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Eugene really should have put a coin in the fountain like he was asked to, but had to be stingy, causing the guardian statue to come to life to attack them later.
  • The Reveal: It is revealed that Sugracha, Tromus and a third figure whose outline looks like Mother Gothel's used to be Demanitus' apprentices until they betrayed him for Zhan Tiri. This also explains how she knew the Sun Drop incantation.
  • Sealed in a Person-Shaped Can: Or monkey-shaped can. Vigor actually houses the spirit of Demanitus.
  • Traitor Shot: Eugene is given the jewel from Vigor's turban after everything is said and done. He notices later that night that it actually is a small locket-like case, and inside is a slip of paper containing a cryptic warning from Demanitus that once they reach the Dark Kingdom, someone in their party will betray Rapunzel. This alarms Eugene and he immediately looks at everyone in the group. He looks to Lance, Shorty, Rapunzel, Pascal, Max, and Fidella. When he looks at Cassandra, his eyes widen when he sees her give a sinister smile.
  • The Voiceless: Despite Cassandra's description in Traitor Shot, she does not get a single line in the episode.
  • Wham Line: Seen in the note Eugene finds in the gem on Vigor's turban.
At the end of Rapunzel's journey, one of her party shall turn against her.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: The combination of the sundrop (life) and moonstone (death) would grant great power to whoever united them. Demanitus wanted to make sure someone pure of heart, like Rapunzel, would be the one to do this.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Demanitus tells Rapunzel and Eugene about how when the Sundrop and the Moonstone are combined, it will become a source of great power. In the right hands, it can benefit the world, but in the wrong hands it can destroy it. When Eugene suggests they just forget about finding the Moonstone so they won't have to worry about it happening, Demanitus says that is impossible since both relics are drawn to each other and if left unchecked, the black rocks will plague them forever.
