Tugs E 11 High Winds Recap

On the day of a huge windstorm, a gangster named Johnny Cuba forces Zebedee to tow him into port and perform various illicit tasks.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Zebedee manages to save the Star Tugs from being crushed by the Princess Alice during a windstorm.
Zebedee: This is two you owe me, Switchers!
  • "Blackmail" Is Such an Ugly Word: When Johnny Cuba orders Zebedee to get some coal for him:
    Zebedee: You mean steal it?
Johnny Cuba: Did I say steal?! Just get it when nobody’s looking.
  • Blatant Lies:
Scuttlebutt Pete: Me? I never gossip. Never.
  • Enemy Mine: Near the end, Hercules and Zebedee work together to hand Johnny over to the Authorities.
  • Gilligan Cut:
Johnny Cuba: I’ll break your stack for this one! The authorities can’t hold Johnny Cuba!
The authorities did hold Johnny Cuba.
  • Hidden Depths: The episode shows that, unlike the rest of the Z-Stacks, Zebedee has a Hidden Heart of Gold and is willing to help the Stars.
  • Hold Your Hippogriffs:
    • A rare case of this being done by the narrator.
It wasn’t his lucky day. Zebedee had enough on his deck as it was, but he couldn’t ignore someone in trouble.
    • When Zebedee helps the Star Tugs dock the Princess Alice.
Zebedee: Oh, Zero’ll have my boiler for this.
  • Implausible Deniability: After Johnny Cuba plows right into the coast guard vessel, he claims that it was an accident, and the winds had blown him off course.
  • Implied Death Threat: Johnny threatens Zebedee with the tug equivalent of murder several times if the latter doesn't help him out.
  • Noodle Incident: Johnny Cuba used to be a friend of Captain Zero, but because of something that happened years ago between them (which is never elaborated upon), the Z-Stacks have been given strict instructions from Captain Zero never to have any dealings with him.
  • Riding into the Sunset: The episode ends with Zebedee steaming towards the sunset.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Johnny exclaims "I'll break your stack for this one! They can't hold Johnny Cuba!" when his plan to sneak into port and meet his criminal friends is foiled by Hercules and Zebedee.
