Recap / Superstore S 4 E 08 Managers Conference

Go To

Manager's Conference is the eighth episode of Superstore's fourth season.

When Glenn and Dina are unable to go to Cloud Nine's annual manager's conference, he sends Jonah and Amy in their place. Upon arriving, they find out the tickets are non-transferable, but Jeff sneaks them in. They attempt to go to their hotel room, but are trying to avoid Jeff, who's unable to find anyone else to talk to and is near the entrance. They eventually get a chance to make their move, but then find out that they're giving out a bunch of free stuff, so they stay to collect all of it. After mocking how stupid all of the company's managers and executives are, Jonah encourages her to try to become one.

Meanwhile, Glenn is being asked by corporate to verify that all employees are legal residents of the U.S., which has Mateo worried that Glenn will find out he's undocumented. When discussing it with Cheyenne, he worries that Sayid overheard him, and would report him. He and Cheyenne attempt to make sure he doesn't know or say anything, but inadvertently leads to Sayid telling Glenn out of fear for his own refugee status. Glenn discusses it with Mateo, but decides to protect him from deportation afterwards.

Also, Garrett and Dina are wrapping gifts.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Armor-Piercing Question:
Amy: I'm a single mom, and I just had a second baby. It's not exactly the best time to make a big life change.
    Jonah: When is?
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode gives Sayid some focus when Mateo worries he overheard Mateo admit he's undocumented.
  • Jerkass: Ted and Kent, the two managers whom Jonah and Amy strike up a conversation. They openly laugh at how useless they consider floor workers to be and cheerfully brag about the fact that they not only make more money than them, but get free stuff from the company at conferences. When Amy (who is pretending to be a jerk manager herself) makes a joke about making a full-time employee into two part-timers just so they don't have to pay them benefits, Kent thinks it's a good idea.
Kent: Don't even get me started. "Pay us more. Give us more hours. I'm on food stamps." It's endless.
