"Part-Time Hires"

Insecure about her relationship with her daughter, Amy gets her a job at Cloud 9. Mateo flirts with a construction worker.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Discussed at the end of the episode, when Amy asks Glenn for advice on why Emma is acting so defiant lately, and Glenn points out that she's just acting like a normal fourteen-year-old girl.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Glenn's welcome slideshow to Emma shows a photo of her as a baby in the bath. Amy didn't give him the photo; Glenn just saves all the photos processed at the store.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: In what might actually count as an inversion, Amy realizes mid-sentence that she hasn't, in fact, psychologically damaged her daughter.
Amy: I just... Ever since the split with Adam, I just feel like everything I do is screwing her up, or maybe I've already screwed her up and it's too late, but she talks back to me, she sometimes wears a lot of eyeliner and I don't know what that means. I just feel like I'm losing control.
Glenn: Amy, can I ask you something but without you taking it the wrong way?
    Amy: Sure.
    Glenn: Are you stupid?
    Amy: Umm...
    Glenn: She's a teenager.
Amy: Yeah, no, I know. I know she's a teenager. But it's just it's more than that. She's secretive. She's distant. She doesn't listen to anything I say anymore oh my God I am stupid. She's a teenager. [sigh of relief] Thank you.
  • Honey Trap: The attractive construction worker Scott flirts with Mateo (and later Cheyenne) in order to get access to the Cloud 9 employee bathrooms.
  • Hot Men at Work: Mateo develops a crush on a beefy construction worker named Scott. Scott exploits this by flirting with Mateo and using his ID to use the bathroom. Later, Scott pulls the same trick on Cheyenne by showing her his chest.
