Episode 4: Don't Answer Me

Sam and her sister Margaret head to the local repair shop and find it full of appliances. Mr. Jakes, the elderly badger who fixes the town's appliances, is backlogged. Heading home, they meet their older brother Rolf who has come for a visit and Rusty is with him. They soon learn why Mr. Jakes is backlogged; he's had a fight with his nephew, Roger, his only family, and is depressed. Rusty heads with Rolf to the nearby seaside resort town of Solton to talk to Roger while Sam and Margaret talk to Mr. Jakes. Sadly, neither one of the badgers will budge, thinking the other is at fault.

Ultimately, Rusty and friends turn to an acquaintance, Mrs. Brown, for help. She ends up saving the day for both badgers and for the townspeople.

Tropes:

  • Cool Big Bro: Rolf, the older brother of Samantha and Margaret.
  • Cool Car: Mentioned and (the front of the car is seen) by Sam and Margaret; their older brother Rolf drives a Pontiac Trans-Am.
  • Jacob Marley Warning: Mrs. Brown's story. It ends up getting Roger and his uncle, Mr. Jakes, to patch up their feud.
  • Mr. Fixit: Mr. Jakes. Implied with his nephew, Roger, but also mentioned that he likes to tinker with and improve on devices, putting him into Mad Scientist territory.
  • Musical Theme Naming: The first episode to be named after a song by The Alan Parsons Project, as implied by the page quote.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Discussed by Rusty about his parents; their coffee maker broke because Rusty dumped rice in it and they have to drink instant coffee, which doesn't work as well for them.
  • Skewed Priorities: Officer Carl, the town sheriff, rushes into the repair shop with a big emergency for Mr. Jakes - his portable television is broken and he can't watch Gumby.
