Recap / Strong Bad Email E 27 Superhero Name

Go To

Airdate: Monday, May 27, 2002

Sender: Stiny

Strong Bad: (in a Shatner-esque voice) All these... emails... I don't understand.

"Stiny" finds it weird that Strong Bad's "superhero name" doesn't end with "man". Strong Bad doesn't think "Stiny" is in any position to be criticizing people's names.

Strong Bad: I mean, what kind of a name is "Stiny" anyways? It sounds like some supervillain's little sidekick, that he's always ordering around, you know. Like "STINY! GET ME A DANISH!" or "STINY! WHO SPILLED COFFEE ALL OVER THE PLANS FOR MY DEATH RAY?!"

Strong Bad even mockingly offers to change his name to "Strong Badman" if Stiny becomes his new sidekick. Unfortunately, he says this just as The Cheat comes in wearing a mask and cape, leading to an angered misunderstanding.

Strong Bad: Hey, The Cheat. Er, just doing an email.
The Cheat: (The Cheat noises)
Strong Bad: What? No! Of course you're still my sidekick!
The Cheat: (annoyed The Cheat noises)
Strong Bad: Yeah, that cape looks great on you-look, I was speaking hypothetically!
The Cheat: (irritated The Cheat noises)
Strong Bad: Oh, come on, don't give me that!
The Cheat: (angered The Cheat noises, walks off)
Strong Bad: Agh- The Cheat!

Tropes:

  • The Ghost: The Strong Badman version of Stiny is never seen.
  • Her Code Name Was "Mary Sue": Strong Badman is a lot taller and more buff than regular Strong Bad.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Strong Badman's lackey Stiny doesn't seem to be very good at his job, with his boss accusing him of "spilling coffee all over the plans for my death ray".
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: The Cheat doesn't take kindly to Strong Bad offering Stiny a position as his new sidekick, even jokingly.
  • Shout-Out: Strong Bad's e-mail intro references William Shatner's version of "Rocket Man" by Elton John. "All these... e-mails... I don't understand..."
  • You, Get Me Coffee: Strong Bad remarks that Stiny sounds like someone who is on the receiving end of orders like "STINY! Get me a danish!"

(An issue of "Strong Badman" appears on the screen. A blurb on the bottom of the cover reads "Click here to email Strong Bad!")
