"I'll create a Warnicorn stampede when I feel like it! GOSH!"

After an argument with Star, Glossaryck goes into hiding in a donut box. While Star and Marco try to convince him to come out of hiding, Ludo plots to capture Star.

Tropes:

  • Alone with the Psycho: Star and Marco try to invoke this with Marco wearing a bird monster costume to fake an attack on Star.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Glossaryck trips Ludo with the donut box right as the latter has Star cornered.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Star's reluctant to follow instructions in part due to her independent nature, and also because spells from the book have a tendency to go wrong. Glossaryck is nevertheless right in that with her wand cleaved, Star can't just use her magic recklessly.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Ludo's new spider and eagle minion make short work of Marco when he tries to save Glossaryck, and Ludo manages to corner Star.
  • Deadly Disc: Turns out that Marco is ludicrously accurate when throwing a trash can lid, temporarily jamming the garbage truck's compactor with a well-aimed throw in an attempt to save Glossaryck.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Star and Marco toss Glossayrck into a Dumpster in hopes that the stink will make him leave. Unfortunately, the garbage truck comes immediately after to pick up the Dumpster's trash and crush it.
  • Disney Death: It looks like Star and Marco are too late to stop Glossaryck's donut box from being crushed... then he bursts out of the seemingly destroyed box, completely unharmed.
  • Foreshadowing: Star and Marco believe that putting Star in danger, or faking it, would bring Glossaryck out. It turns out this is true, since Glossaryck only comes out when Star needs help against Ludo.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Star forgets her Badass Normal side when fighting Ludo with a half-powered wand while he has more powerful minions. It may have given her a better advantage over Ludo while trying to save Glossaryck.
  • From Bad to Worse: Right when Star and Marco need to save Glossaryck from the garbage truck, Ludo and his more competent minions appear.
  • Gambit Roulette: Glossaryck claims that the donut box he was hiding in being taken by a garbage truck was all part of his plan to get Star to follow the book.
  • Graceful Loser: Ludo accepts defeat when he realizes that there is a book that can teach him about magic.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Ludo and Star learn about each other's wand.
    • Ludo now knows there's a manual to teach how to use a wand.
  • Made of Iron: Glossaryck survives being crushed by the garbage compactor; this immunity also lends itself to the donut box.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Star and Marco when they encounter Ludo and his minions
    • Star when her wand spells don't work as well against Ludo.
  • Papa Wolf: Glossaryck trips Ludo when the latter has cornered Star and plans to kill her, without changing his facial expression.
  • Parrot Exposition: A shocked Marco keeps repeating all the things Ludo and Star say to each other. Both of them tell Marco to stop.
  • Pet the Dog: In an attempt to apologize to Glossaryck, Star and Marco take him to the movies.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: This is the crux of Star and Glossaryck's argument. Glossaryck wants Star to learn the techniques from the book, Star doesn't want to. Eventually, she does learn the techniques from the book and is able to successfully cast more powerful spells.
  • Shadow Discretion Shot: Star's fight with the "bird monster" attacking her in the middle of the night is shown only in shadows to conceal the fact the monster is just Marco in a cheap costume.
  • Shout-Out: The movie Marco and Star watch is a Twilight-style supernatural romance where the girl is clearly Cthulhu.
  • Took a Level in Badass: This is the first episode where Ludo's minions have curb-stomped Star and Marco, and Ludo poses a bigger threat now that he has a half of the wand. He would have killed Star or taken her hostage if not for Glossaryck.
  • Tranquil Fury: Glossayrck calmly trips Ludo when the latter threatens Star, without changing his facial expression or theme music.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Apparently Ludo's wand can think.
    • Ludo and Star now know that they each have half of Star's wand.
    • Ludo now knows there's a book that can teach him how to wield his new wand.
