Go To

Squirrel Jelly

Original air date: 11/18/2018

SpongeBob and Patrick have their peaceful day of jellyfishing disturbed by Sandy's competitive nature.

"Squirrel Jelly" contains examples of:

  • Ash Face: SpongeBob and Patrick after all of Jellyfish Fields is burned down.
  • Competition Freak: Sandy up to eleven here.
  • Deconstruction: Of Sandy's overzealous competitiveness. At the beginning of the episode, she takes games way too seriously and doesn’t care who gets injured in the process. When she essentially gives the jellyfish steroids, after finding jellyfishing too boring, she realizes her actions are wrong after seeing how she destroyed Jellyfish Fields and caused a great deal of pain to her friends. She goes home to think about what she’s done, becoming a gentle pacifist. The savage jellyfish that she created catch up with her at the worst possible time.
  • Extra-Long Episode: This episode is 16 minutes long instead of the standard 11 minutes.
  • Eye Scream: Some jellyfish make their way into Patrick's head, push his eyes out of his head and put themselves into his sockets, stinging him while he screams.
  • Iris Out: How the episode ends.
  • Jerkass Realization: Sandy has a minor version of this when she sees all the damage she did due to her competitive nature.
  • A Lesson Learned Too Well: After realizing what she did to Jellyfish Fields, Sandy resolves to be more calm, constantly meditating even in the face of danger. Thankfully, she gets serious when the savage Jellyfish attack her friends one too many times.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Vicious jellyfish ravage Bikini Bottom. Guess whose fault it is.

The String

Original air date: 11/18/2018

SpongeBob pulls a loose string from Squidward's shirt that never seems to end.

"The String" contains examples of:

  • Apocalypse How: X-4. SpongeBob's pulling of the string ended up with the universe unraveled.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment:
Mr. Krabs: (holding a $10,000,000 bill) Me most valuable possession, (grabs a framed picture of his daughter, Pearl) except, of course, (opens the backside of the picture frame and pulls out a $100,000,000 bill) for you, my love.
  • Eye Scream: SpongeBob juggles hot Krabby Patties with his eyeballs, only for them to catch on fire. It doesn't help that he tries to soothe it with hot mustard, causing his eyes to melt.
  • Failed a Spot Check: SpongeBob doesn't pay attention to how much destruction he's causing with the string, even when he unravels the entire universe.
  • Gainax Ending: SpongeBob unravels the entire universe at the end of the episode. Patrick, who was somehow not unraveled, appears out of nowhere and unravels SpongeBob after he sees a loose string on SpongeBob's sleeve.
  • Iris Out: The episode ends on one.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Downplayed. Spongebob is unraveled just like he did with the other stuff when he pulled the string. Although, he seems fine with it.
  • Naked People Trapped Outside: All the customers in the Krusty Krab run outside after SpongeBob unravels their clothes.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Parodied.
Fred: MY LEG! I mean, MY PANTS!
  • Running Gag: SpongeBob unraveling Squidward's clothes, leaving him naked.
  • Tempting Fate: After Squidward emerges from the clothes store in a suit of armor, Squidward says, "Let's see that twine-twirling twit try to unravel this!" Not surprisingly, SpongeBob unravels it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Squidward. Seeing as he left his loose thread unattended and didn't try to cut it off, it allowed SpongeBob to pull it until he unravels the entire universe.
