Sweet and Sour Squid

Plankton strikes a friendship with Squidward in order to get the Krabby Patty formula.
"Sweet and Sour Squid" contains examples of:
- Big "NO!": Plankton lets one out when he loses his earplugs.
- Blatant Lies: When Plankton sings about how good Squidward's clarinet playing is, Squidward's off-key clarinet solos clearly state otherwise.
- Continuity Snarl: Squidward claims that that he doesn't know the Krabby Patties ingredients because he works the register, but he has taken over the grill for SpongeBob multiple times before.
- Didn't Think This Through: Plankton's whole plot of befriending Squidward is so he can get him to tell the Krabby Patty formula (assuming Squidward would know it after working at the Krusty Krab for so long). But as Squidward points out later on, he works the register, therefore he doesn't make Krabby Patties, so he has no knowledge of the ingredients.
- Disguised in Drag: One of Plankton's attempts to get in Squidward's house is dressing up as a Gill Scout.
- Dreadful Musician: Squidward per usual.
- Felony Misdemeanor: In real life, simply playing an instrument badly is not grounds for arrest.
- Glass-Shattering Sound: Squidward plays a very high note on his clarinet that it shatters the windows of Mrs. Puff's boating school, the mirrors in Larry's gym, and the windshield of Sandy's helicopter.
- Guilt by Association: When the police respond to the complaints of the town, they blame Plankton just because he is the one holding the clarinet. SpongeBob is about to tell them the truth, but Mr. Krabs stops him.
- Headphones Equal Isolation: When Plankton finds Squidward's music awful, he puts plugs in his ears so he can pretend to like it.
- Karma Houdini: Plankton is the one arrested for disturbing the town while Squidward gets off scott-free. The only type of punishment Squidward does receive is his clarinet getting destroyed. In his defense though, Plankton was the one who caused this by lying to Squidward that his clarinet-playing is good (which it isn't).
- Produce Pelting: The townspeople do this to Squidward and Plankton while the former plays his clarinet around town, with the two either not noticing or ignoring it.
- Running Gag: Squidward pouring water on Plankton.
- Shout-Out: The song that Plankton sings is a clear parody of "Pinball Wizard" by The Who.
- Strange Minds Think Alike: Mr. Krabs refers to Squidward's clarinet as a fish flute, much to Squidward's annoyance. Later when Plankton steals Squidward's clarinet, he also refers to it as a fish flute.
The Googly Artiste

An art critic deems Patrick's rock art the "new big thing".
"The Googly Artiste" contains examples of:
- Artsy Beret: Squidward wears one, which the art critique takes away and gives to Patrick when he is impressed by Patrick putting googly eyes on rocks.
- HA HA HA—No: When SpongeBob offers Fredrick T. Nitpick to join them in making arts and crafts, the latter hysterically laughs before saying he only critics art.
- Insistent Terminology: When SpongeBob compliments Squidward's hat, Squidward snaps at him while saying it's not a hat, it's a beret.
- Meaningful Name: The art critique named Fredrick T. Nitpick.
- Shout-Out: While trying to create art, Patrick ends up making the oil painting "The Starry Night" and the sculpture "The Thinker".
- Sudden Anatomy: When Mr. Krabs hears the sounds of a cash register, he has an ear on the side of his head.
- Take That, Critics!: The whole episode is this.
- Tempting Fate: After Patrick sells one of his googly-eyed rocks to an art critic, Squidward bets that he won't sell another one. Afterwards, someone offers to give Patrick 50 bucks for one of his googly-eyed rocks, followed by a whole crowd of people wanting one as well. When Squidward is about to make another bet, SpongeBob stops him and suggests they talk about his gambling problem.
