A Friendly Game

Original air date: 3/26/2011 (produced in 2010)

SpongeBob and Patrick play mini golf indoors when rain ruins their plans.

A Friendly Game contains examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet: Patrick hits Squidward's foot with a hammer.
  • Arc Words: "Play the ball where it lies."
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: Patrick commands the rain to stop and is promptly struck by lightning.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set at Conch Street.
  • Cue the Rain: Just as SpongeBob meets up with Patrick for their mini golf game, it starts raining.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: Squidward instructs SpongeBob and Patrick not to disturb his nap with their golf game. Unfortunately, this doesn't prevent them from coming into his house and ransacking it.
  • Eye Beams: Squidward has these when SpongeBob and Patrick wake him up with the construction noise. It ends up burning off the sleep mask he's wearing.
  • Hard-Work Montage: The "Brief construction montage" that plays when SpongeBob and Patrick build their mini golf course.
  • Literal-Minded: Just before their last putt, SpongeBob says "This one's for all the marbles".
Patrick: I thought we weren't betting.
SpongeBob: No, I mean whoever makes this hole wins the game.
  • Mini-Golf Episode: When the rain outside prevents them from going mini golfing, SpongeBob creates a course in his house from him and Patrick to play on.
  • No Sympathy: Squidward just says "Don't care" when the rain prevents SpongeBob and Patrick from going to the golf course.
  • Title Drop: SpongeBob says the title when he asks Squidward if he would like to play a friendly game of indoor mini golf.

Sentimental Sponge

Original air date: 4/2/2011 (produced in 2010)

SpongeBob refuses to part with some junk because of the memories they give.

Sentimental Sponge contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Hoarding is not acceptable. It's important to throw out the things you no longer need, even if it is hard at first.
  • Big "NO!": By SpongeBob as he tries to stop his trash from being thrown away.
  • Bottle Episode: Just like its sister episode, with most of it in SpongeBob's house.
  • Cheated Angle: After SpongeBob puts a light bulb in his head, he is only shown facing right from when the cops arrive to when he takes pictures of Squidward with the trash.
  • Creepy Changing Painting: While SpongeBob is cleaning at the beginning, he moves Gary over a picture of a wrinkly and bearded Patrick, which changes to one of him with a happy smile.
  • Hats Off to the Dead: SpongeBob removes his hat when all his trash is taken away. He urges Squidward to remove his night cap as well.
  • Here We Go Again!: In the end after all the trash is taken away, turns out SpongeBob saved all the pictures he took of them, which flooded the entire house.
  • Police Are Useless: When Squidward calls the cops after SpongeBob's hoarding gets to the point where both of their houses are flooded with garbage, one of them does nothing but scoff and call Squidward a snitch. Keep in mind, not only is littering treated seriously in Bikini Bottom (and this is one of the times when it becomes a serious problem), but Squidward himself has been fined for littering just for being in the same vicinity as garbage before.
  • Running Gag:
    • Squidward's nightshirt being mistaken for a dress.
    • Squidward finding SpongeBob's behavior "Creepy".
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Once again, Patrick influences SpongeBob into unacceptable behaviors. In this case, he encourages SpongeBob into becoming a hoarder. Patrick himself engages in it and he can’t seem to see how bad of a habit it is.
  • Trash of the Titans: SpongeBob hoards so much trash that his house overflows.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Patrick scolds SpongeBob for throwing away stuff that holds precious memories. This causes SpongeBob to start hoarding.
