Sonic challenges Eggman to a game of soccer in order to save the village's beloved recreation center.

Tropes featured in this episode

• Call-Back: Team Cybonic, the cyborg counterparts of Team Sonic from Roboken who were created ahead of the climax of the multi-parter "Robots from the Sky", return in this episode.
• Dance Battler: As the second half of the soccer match is about to begin, the radio is turned on and Team Sonic pull off a Michael Jackson-like breakdance routine that gives them the advantage over their cyborg counterparts, allowing them to win the match.
• Epic Fail: Eggman initially attampts to use his robots as a soccer team, only to find out none of them can kick a ball; Orbot and Cubot don't have feet, Giant Robot runs over the soccer ball with his treads, Ballot Stuffer Bot shoots pieces of paper at the soccer ball, and Shark Bot flops helplessly on the field.
• Hoist by Their Own Petard: The jock programming Eggman installs in Team Cybonic enforces all the stereotypes of the archetype onto them... including that of the Dumb Jock. As such, they all lack the creativity to adapt when Team Sonic switch up their play style, allowing them to come from behind and win in the second half.
• Jerk Jock: Invoked - in order to give Team Cybonic an edge over Team Sonic, with whom they are fairly evenly matched in their default state, Eggman installs "jerk jock" programming into them to make them more antagonistic toward Team Sonic and their play style more aggressive.
• Medium Awareness: After Sonic and his friends successfully get enough votes for the petition to keep the rec center open, they hand it over to Mayor Fink... who promptly puts it through a paper shredder, saying that he needed confetti for the budget parade and that saving the rec center is futile.
  Mayor Fink: Did you really think it'd be over so quickly? We're only two minutes into this thing!
• Mind-Control Device: Eggman gives Team Cybonic special wristbands that place them under his control for the majority of this episode.
• Shout-Out:
  • The song heard on the radio while Team Sonic and the villagers play in the rec center is a parody of "Believe in the Beat" from Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.
    • For further references to said film, when Eggman first enters Mayor Fink's office:
      Eggman: I'd like to buy the rec center. I'm gonna tear it down to build myself a rec center, just for me, and there's nothing you arrogant bunch of street kids can do about it!
  • The entirety of Team Sonic's pre-game dance routine just screams pure Michael Jackson.
• Town Contest Episode: Team Sonic and their cyborg counterparts take part in a charity soccer game in this episode.
• Would Hurt a Child: In keeping with the Jerk Jock programming Eggman forces on them, Team Cybonic whip Tails with wet rolled-up towels during the halftime break, just for kicks.
