The Sliders track Rickman to a parallel world where California is a chain of islands inhabited by bizarre human/animal hybrids created by a deranged scientist.


Tropes present in the episode:

  • Big Damn Kiss: A downplayed example. Quinn and Maggie finally share a kiss in the final scene.
  • Big "NO!": Rickman lets one out after he finds that Quinn, Wade, and Maggie escaped from his captivity.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Wade and Rembrandt slide back to Earth Prime, and Quinn and Maggie stay for the final confrontation with Rickman.
  • Cliffhanger: Instead of arriving on Earth Prime, Quinn and Maggie land on a futuristic world with no idea how to reunite with Wade and Rembrandt.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Alisandra, who falls for Rembrandt.
  • Disney Villain Death: In the final act, Rickman jumps off a cliff, hoping to enter the vortex that Quinn opens for Wade and Rembrandt. The vortex, however, closes before Rickman reaches it, and he plummets to his death.
  • Evil Brit: Dr. Vargas, as played by Michael York.
  • Eviler than Thou: Rickman outclasses Dr. Vargas in strategy and savagery when the latter comes to make a deal with the former.
  • A God Am I: Dr. Vargas expresses this sentiment moments before his demise at the hands of his own creations.
  • Honor Before Reason: Quinn misses the chance to go home so Maggie isn't left to face the hybrids alone. Wade and Rembrandt don't want to leave him, but Quinn doesn't give them any choice.
  • Interspecies Romance: Rembrandt, a human, and Alisandra, one of Vargas' hybrids, develop an attraction to one another.
  • Jerkass: Dr. Vargas is a smug asshole who engineers his hybrids as docile slaves and even beats Alisandra at one point in the episode.
  • Large Ham: Dr. Vargas in the final act, when he rants and raves about how he's immortal and can't be killed because his blood is in his hybrids'.
  • Mad Scientist: Dr. Vargas. In the final act, he rants madly about how his blood in his hybrids' as they attack and kill him.
  • My Greatest Failure: Maggie regards her past affair with Rickman as this.
  • Skyward Scream: Daniel lets out an anguished howl after implying to Rembrandt that Dr. Vargas beat Alisandra.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The humanimals turn against their maker in the final act, Zerg Rushing and killing him.
  • Villain Team-Up: Vargas tries to talk Rickman into this, but Rickman isn't interested.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Island of Doctor Moreau. This episode's major guest star Michael York played Andrew Braddock in the 1977 film version.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Dr. Vargas beats Alisandra (off-screen).
