On a world where men give birth to babies instead of women, Rembrandt assumes his regal double's identity to help an old flame, only to end up being impregnated with the heir to the throne.

Tropes present in the episode:

  • Berserk Button: Rembrandt doesn't take kindly to his double treating Danielle with anything less than complete respect.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The conspiracy is foiled and the baby will grow up to be king, but Rembrandt loses Danielle a second time and has a tough time saying goodbye to the kid.
  • But I Can't Be Pregnant!: And you really can't blame Rembrandt for being surprised when the others explain the situation.
Rembrandt: I'm pregnant?! I'm not even married!
  • Calling the Old Woman Out: George denounces Lady Mary as a monster for what she's done and has her taken away.
  • The Cast Show Off: Champion colligate fencer Jerry O'Connell gets the chance to show off his sword skills.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Arturo is completely out of his depth when it comes to delivering a baby, but there is no one else on hand to try.
    • After the group escapes the fire, Lady Mary tells her guy that she is done trying to Make It Look Like an Accident.
  • Good News, Bad News: Arturo says Rembrandt is pregnant, but he adds the upside is that he is going to give birth to royalty.
  • Honor Before Reason:
    • Rembrandt is quite content to ride out the pregnancy and be with Danielle due to a traumatic incident involving her double on Earth Prime.
    • The whole plot was to get George (a bastard son) installed as king. George had no idea about his history and is disgusted by the conspiracy against the monarchy.
  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: Arturo really doesn't like having to deliver the baby.
Arturo: I'm a theoretical mathematician, not a butcher!
  • Impostor Forgot One Detail: Danielle learns the truth about Rembrandt because she overheard him singing to the baby. See, her Rembrandt is tone deaf.
  • Improbable Infant Survival: Double subverted. Arturo really doesn't like his chances when it's time to deliver the baby. When Quinn and Wade later enter the makeshift delivery room, Arturo is seen sitting in a chair with a bottle and talking about how the baby was in distress. He's presumably Drowning His Sorrows, but then we hear the baby cooing, revealing Arturo succeeded and that his drink is instead in celebration of that.
  • Indy Ploy: Quinn tries to sneak Rembrandt out of the hospital before the operation. He is quickly caught and arrested, so Arturo spins a lie about them being a team of professionals to look after the Duke during the pregnancy.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident:
    • The attempt on Rembrandt's double was to make him look like a drowning victim by knocking him out and dumping him a 100 yards out to sea. It failed because he was lucky enough to come to and swim for it.
    • At the cabin, Lady Mary drugs Rembrandt and the others to knock them out and has the building set on fire. She demands her guy ensure it's an inferno in order to leave as little evidence as possible.
  • Mister Seahorse: A virus rendered females unable to carry children to full term, so doctors devised a way to allow men to carry babies for the remainder of the pregnancy.
  • Pet the Dog: Just before the slide:
    Arturo: How's my patient?
    Rembrandt: Not too good.
Arturo: This time, you can fall on me if you like.
  • Race Against the Clock: Rembrandt is due to give birth after the slide. Quinn and Wade scramble to find Rembrandt's double in order to transfer the baby into him. However, given his history with Danielle back on Earth Prime, Rembrandt isn't exactly eager to make the deadline. It becomes moot after Rembrandt inhales too much smoke during the cabin fire, forcing an emergency delivery.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Lady Mary's surprise over seeing Rembrandt at the hospital. On the first viewing, you think it's because of mere mistaken identity. On the second viewing, you know it's because she's behind the conspiracy and thought Rembrandt was already dead.
  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: It is never stated outright but it is heavily implied that Thomas Jefferson was the one who established the American monarchy after the colonies achieved their independence from the British Empire and that he reigned as the first King of the United States with Sally Hemmings as his queen. The evidence for this is the recently deceased King Thomas and the fact that Danielle's title is Duchess of Hemmingshire.
  • The Scapegoat: Quinn suspects part of Lady Mary's scheme involves pinning the blame for the deaths on the local resistance movement, the American Revolutionists, if need be.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Rembrandt's double has a habit of bailing on Danielle during arguments. Rembrandt chastises him for this, as he did the same and lost a relationship because of it.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Wade finds a pin implicating Lady Mary as being behind all this. Quinn notes that's a good start but also that they need hard evidence so that she can't claim she simply misplaced the pin or some such.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Rembrandt upon waking up and seeing his enlarged stomach.
Rembrandt: Please tell me this isn't what I think it is.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Everyone assumes that Rembrandt's double simply ran out on his wife and unborn kid. In truth, he just survived an assassination attempt and is lying low for his own safety.
  • You Have Failed Me: Lady Mary kills the assassin who failed to kill alt-Rembrandt.
