Tropes

  • Afraid of Needles: Subverted with Jonesy—everyone initially assumes he's this, but he's actually Afraid of Blood (due to some traumatic nosebleed experience he had when he was younger). Jude admits that he's scared of needles, but he his love for donuts far outweighs this.
  • Agony of the Feet: Nikki gets some pretty nasty blisters on her feet due to the flip-flops she's forced to wear.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: While Jude does eventually show the accurate signs of blood fatigue following his multiple donations, in reality he’d have shown them a lot sooner and likely died well before donation number 17 as the human body only holds so much blood and red blood cells don’t regenerate in one day.
  • Food as Bribe: The blood doctor gives Jude the whole box of doughnuts on the condition he never blabs about them unknowingly drawing his blood seventeen times.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Caitlin talks with Jen as they stand in line for a store, badmouthing the latest guy she tried to get with and broke up with. Said guy was standing in front of her, stating that he's right there.
  • Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: Jude donates his blood seventeen times for the sake of free donuts.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: This is how Jude manages to repeatedly donate his blood without being detected.
  • Post-Treatment Lollipop: A blood drive is being held at the mall with each donor getting a free donut. Jude donates blood 17 times in various disguises to keep getting the free donuts. Meanwhile, Jonesy wants to donate blood to get the sticker and the donut, but his fear of blood keeps him from doing it.
  • Shown Their Work: Real blood drives will, in fact, give sugary treats to donors like donuts and cookies to raise their blood sugar back up to the proper levels and keep them from fainting.
  • Single Malt Vision: Jude suffers from impaired vision due to having too much of his blood drawn.
