Recap / She Ra And The Princesses Of Power S 1 E 10 The Beacon

Go To

Blaming themselves, the princesses question the Alliance. Meanwhile, Glimmer is hiding glitches from her mom, and Adora is worried about her training.

Tropes:

  • Abandonment-Induced Animosity: Catra invokes this trope to get Entrapta to defect to the Horde. Entrapta, when she realizes that no one is coming for her, is visibly heartbroken.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Entrapta's assumed death at the Fright Zone causes the fledgling Princess Alliance to fracture and each princess goes back to their respective kingdoms to isolate themselves.
  • Cardboard Prison: Due to Entrapta's knowledge of technology and her prehensile hair, it's basically impossible for the Horde to fully capture her. She easily breaks out of her restraints and even brings her bot Emily around.
  • The Corrupter: Catra convinces Entrapta that she's better off with the Horde.
  • Curiosity Causes Conversion: In a rare negative example, Entrapta joins the Horde because it gives her the opportunity to study their technology and possible that of the First Ones.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Hordak points out that having Adora in the Fright Zone was a terrible idea, since she knows every inch of the place. The fact that she can turn into an eight-foot tall magical warrior just makes it worse.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Shadow Weaver's reaction when Catra shows sympathy for her after Hordak royally lets her have it, though after she calms down she admits that she only ever tried to make Catra strong.
  • Dramatic Irony: The viewers get to see that Entrapta is alive, but the Alliance thinks that she's dead. Meanwhile, Entrapta does not know the Alliance thinks she is dead and Catra convinces her that they abandoned her.
  • Failed Attempt at Drama: Catra approaches the imprisoned Entrapta, threateningly tapping a stun baton in the palm of her hand.
    Catra: Prisoner.
Scorpia: [leaning in to whisper] That's Entrapta.
Catra: I know her name, I was just— Ugh, never mind.
  • Going in Circles: Adora finds herself in this situation while trying to reach the citadel from the third episode.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Angella still regrets sending her husband into the battle that cost him his life.
  • Internal Reveal: Hordak discovers both the fact that Adora is She-Ra and that Shadow Weaver knew as much.
  • It's All My Fault: Glimmer blames herself for getting captured as that led to Entrapta's "death" and the Princess Alliance fracturing. Bow himself feels that if he had attended the prom with Glimmer instead of Perfuma they could have had each others backs and they wouldn't have been captured.
  • Juggling Loaded Guns: Bow is the only person who takes issue with She-Ra using her deadly sword in an attempt to heal Glimmer. Glimmer goes so far as to suggest She-Ra use a jabbing motion, ignoring Bow's protests.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Shadow Weaver Stealing the Credit for Catra's plan means that when it fails, she is the one blamed.
  • Memorial Statue: Perfuma creates one for Entrapta at Plumeria.
  • Mistaken for Betrayal: Entrapta hid in the Fright Zone for several days, waiting for her group, all of whom assumed she had died the instant they were separated. Catra convinces Entrapta that they knew she was alive, but didn't care enough to come back. Although it's debatable if Entrapta cared about that nearly as much as the research opportunities.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Entrapta and her robot survived the flame purge in the previous episode and have just been hiding in the vents, waiting for rescue.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Shadow Weaver justifies her obsession with Adora since Adora is She-Ra. Hordak considers that an even worse reason to try to bring her back into the fold.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Angella suspects something is wrong when her daughter doesn't teleport away to escape a hug. Glimmer brushes it off as just being tired and needing to recharge.
  • Wham Line: "I don't know how you feel?! I got your father killed!"
