Dr. Cox rails against drug companies while falling for the wiles of a beautiful pharmaceutical saleswoman.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Damned by Faint Praise: Turk tells Carla he's gotten her a bus pass and a brochure to a Nurse Practitioner program so she can learn to be more than "just a nurse". She's upset that she has to ask doctors for permission to change medication, but she's more upset that he disdains her profession.
  • Gaussian Girl: Cox and Julie meeting under a streetlight with her sitting on the hood of his car has a filter on it. Or maybe it was just a foggy night.
  • Has a Type: Cox once again falls for a strong woman.
  • Humble Pie: JD claims he was right (at the worst possible time) about Eliot's patient not being right for surgery, only for Kelso to praise her for making the right decision. She was at risk, she needed the surgery, and the dice just didn't land right. Eliot gets to hand JD a slice of pie.
  • Ms. Fanservice: In-Universe, pharmaceutical reps have this reputation, and Julie plays it up (being played by Heather Locklear certainly helps).
  • Overly Long Gag: JD keeps going on and on with the jokes about how the kid got hurt.
  • Sex Is Evil, and I Am Horny: Cox attacks Julie for using her sexuality, but but he is seriously horny for her.
  • Shout-Out: Part of JD's gag in the opening is a reference to Victor/Victoria.
  • Slut-Shaming: Part of how Cox attacks Julie is her use of her sexuality to push Plomox, but he follows that up by acknowledging the pills work and attacking her company for the giant price hike.
  • So Proud of You: Kelso gives Eliot genuine congratulations and a warm smile for making the tough call and giving her patient the only fighting chance she had even though it didn't end well. As a "Well Done, Son" Guy, she lights up when that happens.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Turk eats several pounds of meat. Rather than just the typical comedy of a too big meal, he ends up in pain.
  • A Threesome Is Hot: Carla says "If It's You, It's Okay" about Julie and Turk takes her at her word, inviting her for a threesome (nothing comes of the one gag).
