"All it takes is to find a little courage your heart and you too can become a Guardian. And as long as you have compassion for others, anyone can become a Messiah. But no matter what you choose to become, never forget about the family and friends who love you. I won't let you die. I will save you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Darkness, My Old Friend")

Thanks to some convincing from an unexpected participant, Sailor Moon gives up the Holy Grail. This proves to be the worst and best decision she could possibly make.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All Your Powers Combined: The Inner and Outer Guardians transfer their energy to Sailor Moon giving her the power needed to become Super Sailor Moon again.
  • And Your Reward Is Infancy: Instead of dying, Sailor Saturn is reincarnated as a baby. It's heavily suggested that it's thanks to Moon that she was given another chance at life.
  • Badass in Distress: Mistress 9 uses her Prehensile Hair to bind Uranus and Neptune to a giant statue based on the Messiah of Silence.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Death Busters have been defeated and both Hotaru and Chibi-usa are saved thanks to Sailor Moon. Yet all the Guardians are exhausted and injured from Pharaoh 90's attack and Sailor Pluto is still dead.
  • Cruel Mercy: To thank her for giving her the Holy Grail, Mistress 9 promises to let Sailor Moon live...as a Daimon vessel.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: As the Guardian of Destruction, Saturn has the power to bring death to anything on a planet-sized level. But to use that power, regardless of the reason, would result in her own demise.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: When Sailor Saturn finally appears she defies the expectations Uranus and Neptune had of her, calmly explaining she plans to destroy Pharaoh 90 to save the world even though she'll die in the process.
  • Downer Beginning: The very first scene has Hotaru's voice apologizing to Chibi-usa as she's consumed by the darkness. Mistress 9 then boasts that she's finally gone.
  • Eldritch Abomination: From what we can see of Pharoah 90, he resembles a planet made of darkness with a giant glowing eye and tentacles. And based on his servant's description, he would bring about the destruction of Earth to usher his era of Silence.
  • Fight Unscene: The world never sees how Super Sailor Moon helped Sailor Saturn destroy Pharoah 90.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Seeing her father again is enough to conjure Hotaru to reclaim her body.
  • Happy Flashback: While cradling his daughter's new body, Professor Tomoe thinks back to when he was at his happiest alongside Hotaru.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Now that the Daimon possessing his body is deceased, the real Tomoe appears and does his part in helping Hotaru return.
  • Hostage for MacGuffin: After tethering the Outers to her statue, Mistress 9 orders Moon to give up the Holy Grail so they can be spared.
  • Mood Whiplash: After the Happy Flashback sequence, Hotaru starts to appear again giving hope to her father. But then Mistress 9 takes control and pushes him away.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The real Professor Tomoe is disturbed to see what his Deal with the Devil turned Hotaru into.
  • No Body Left Behind: The Messiah of Silence is erased from existence after Hotaru reclaims her body and awakens as Sailor Saturn.
  • No-Sell: Moon tries to use Moon Cosmic Power to attack Pharaoh 90. All this does is make the Eldritch Abomination attack with a more devastating laser beam.
  • Now, Let Me Carry You: Sailor Saturn thanks Sailor Moon for protecting her body so she can awaken. She then asks to let her take care of Pharoah 90.
  • Oh, Crap!: Uranus has this response upon realizing that Sailor Saturn has awakened.
  • Psychic Link: Implied. While maintaining their magic barrier, the Inners are able to communicate with each other just fine.
  • Say My Name: Each Inner Guardian whispers their friend's name when they hear her plea for power.
  • Taking the Bullet:
    • Moon throws herself in front of Mistress 9 to keep her body safe from the Outers' attacks.
    • She does it again when one of Pharoah 90's energy blasts comes close to hitting the Professor and the Messiah of Silence.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Neptune warns Moon that she'll despise her for the rest of her life if she hands over the Holy Grail to the Death Busters.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: The last scene shows Sailor Moon with a blank expression after returning from Pharoah 90's dimension.
  • Titled After the Song: The Cloverway dub title is a shout out to lyrics of the song "Sounds of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel.
  • Took a Third Option: Sailor Moon refused to murder Hotaru to stop Mistress 9, and she refuses to allow Sailor Saturn to die in order to destroy Pharaoh 90.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Sailor Moon manages to pull off her own Super form after she desperately cries out "Crisis Make-Up" with the need to save Hotaru from her own destruction.
  • Wham Shot: Once Hotaru gains the power to expel Mistress 9 from her body, the black star on her forehead shatters to reveal the symbol of Saturn.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Uranus and Neptune are outraged in Moon's refusal to destroy Mistress 9 and how she willingly handed her the Holy Grail.
