"Haruka is a very cool person! Wait... why is Mako-chan looking at her like that? She knows she's a girl right? Hey! Snap out of it! Oh no! And now to make things worse, Mako gets attacked by the enemy! Return that girl's Pure Heart now! I am Sailor Moon! In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Lita Borrows Trouble")

The Inner girls are concerned that Makoto has fallen in love with Haruka as she begins to hang out her and Michiru. As flattering as the cool couple's invitation was, however, the truth is far worse as Haruka only invited her as Makoto is the latest target for Kaolinite and her Daimon.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All According to Plan: Sailor Neptune drops this phrase as the Daimon proceeds to take out Makoto's Pure Heart.
  • Beautiful All Along: Behind Scar's hideous mask lies a beautiful face.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Rei, Ami and Minako have this reaction after Usagi tells them about Makoto's outing.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Haruka comes up with the idea of spending extra time with Makoto alongside Michiru so they can be near her when the Daimon claims her Pure Heart. Though it's subverted in the end after Makoto is revealed not to be a Talisman holder so they can continue their friendship with her with actual sincerity.
  • Book Ends: Haruka uses her scarf to tend to Makoto's wound after crashing into her in the beginning. In the end, Makoto uses the same scarf to heal Haruka's wound.
  • Call-Back: Minako admits that she can't blame Makoto "going out" with Haruka given her own experience.
  • Continuity Nod: Michiru mentions having met Makoto at the arcade.
  • Crash-Into Hello: Makoto becomes smitten with Haruka after she almost flattens her and Usagi with her wheels.
  • Dub-Induced Plotline Change: The Cloverway dub awkwardly tries to re-write Usagi and the others thinking Makoto is in love with Haruka to Serena and the others thinking Lita would rather have Amara as her "best friend" than any of them.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Even though she regrets toying with Makoto's feelings, Uranus accepts that she needed to do so to determine if she bears a Talisman or not.
  • Freudian Slip: After a gust of wind blows away her handkerchief, Makoto openly admits that it was her excuse to see Haruka.
  • Heteronormative Crusader: In the original version, Usagi and the other Inners are strongly against the idea of Makoto falling in love with another woman and implore her not to give up on finding a boyfriend. In the Viz dub, this attitude is significantly downplayed.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Usagi and her friends don't even notice Kaolinite as they walk by her in the middle of the city.
  • It's All My Fault: Sailor Jupiter blames herself for Haruka and Michiru getting hurt because they were close to her when Scar hunted her.
  • I Just Want to Be You: Played with sincerity. Makoto became enamored with Haruka because of how strong and selfless she was as a woman while having a confident embrace of her masculine and feminine qualities. She hopes to herself that she can be a woman as confident as Haruka one day.
  • Likes Clark Kent, Hates Superman: Makoto develops animosity towards Uranus and Neptune after realizing that they were "hiding" to take her Pure Heart while letting Haruka and Michiru, two people that she strongly admires, be attacked by Scar.
  • Malevolent Masked Madame: The Daimon, Scar, wears a monstrous mask throughout her appearance.
  • Mirthless Laughter: Usagi and Makoto do this to brush off the possibility that Makoto would be romantically interested in another woman/Haruka.
  • Mummy Wrap: Scar's main attack involves mummifying Makoto with her many scarves.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: From Uranus' perspective, Moon and Mercury getting in the way of Makoto's attack robbed them of the chance to determine if she bore a Talisman or not.
  • Only Sane Woman: While her friends are busy gossiping about Makoto having an interest in girls, Ami is the only one who's worried that she'll be in peril because of the Daimon.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: The original series heavily featured the Inner girls disapproving of the idea of Makoto falling in love with girls, so the Viz dub took multiple liberties to downplay this aspect.
    • In the original, the girls insisted that Makoto could still find a boyfriend and how she'd regret falling for a girl. Usagi in particularly constantly reminded her in harsh tones that Haruka is a woman. In the Viz dub, they're more concerned over the fact that she fell in love with Haruka who's already in a relationship and were worried that Makoto was setting herself up for heartbreak as a Third Wheel.
    • In the original, Rei was embarrassed that Usagi pulled out her All Girl Revue album just to embarrass her. In the Viz dub, she's more upset over Usagi's ruining her first edition album with her filthy hands.
  • Sexy Coat Flashing: Scar does this to Makoto during her second attack.
  • Shout-Out: Usagi pulls out Rei's album which is based on Takarazuka Revue.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!: Uranus isn't phased with Jupiter's accusation of her and Neptune being on the same level of despicableness as the Daimons.
  • Sparing Them the Dirty Work: Discussed. Uranus argues with Neptune that the Inner Guardians won't have the guts to sacrifice any of the Talisman holders in order to prevent the Silence. Therefore, she'd prefer it if she and Neptune kept themselves separate from the Inners while they look for Talismans.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Ami ends up doing this to get her friends to pay attention to the fact that Makoto will be in danger on her own.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: Kaolinite orders Scar to flee the scene after Sailors Moon and Mercury arrive to save Makoto.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Jupiter calls out the Outer Guardians for always lurking in the shadows hoping to take the Pure Hearts of victims just like the Daimons.
    • As they're running, Neptune chastises Uranus for acting childish by beating up Jupiter.
  • Wingding Eyes: Makoto gets stars in her eyes when she sees Haruka remove her helmet to attend to her after the crash.
  • The Worf Effect: Jupiter, the brawny girl of the Inner Guardians, is easily beaten by Uranus after a single strike. Though it's revealed that Jupiter was able to land her own hit on Uranus.
  • You Remind Me of X: Rei assumes that Makoto fell for Haruka because she reminded her of her infamous heart-breaking sempai.
