“Out of the blue, a super hot boy named Haruka Tenoh showed up, with an equally gorgeous girl at his side. Talk about a perfect looking couple! And at about the same time, those two mysterious Guardians appeared again. We still don't know who's side they're on, but if they're bad guys, then In the Name of the Moon, I'll punish them!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Driving Dangerously")

Wanting to avoid an upcoming study session, Minako and Usagi spend the day chasing after a handsome and charming student named Haruka Tenoh who's accompanied by the equally beautiful Michiru Kaioh. As fate would have it, they also learn that the two new strangers who've been showing up to attack the Daimons are actually Sailor Guardians from the Outer Solar System.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Haruka refers to Minako and Usagi as "kittens".
  • Artistic License: In the real world, there should have been no way for Haruka's car to have been able to catch up to Minako while going at the designated speed as her and with the handicap she allowed. The writers clearly wanted to show how speed and racing where Haruka's domain.
  • Blow You Away: Sailor Uranus' main attack is a ball of concentrated wind energy called World Shaking.
  • Cool Bike: Haruka and Michiru ride one to catch up to Steering.
  • Crush Blush: Usagi and Minako turn bright red when they gaze upon Haruka.
  • Crush Filter: Haruka and Michiru are introduced with artistic lighting, flower petals flying past them, and an angelic chorus praising their presence with their voices.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Sailor Venus expresses irritation at Sailor Moon for doing her In the Name of the Moon speech without her, even though Venus was the one riding their bicycle to begin with.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Minako and Usagi are instantly enamored with Michiru when she enters the arcade.
  • Evolving Credits: The opening now includes Sailors Uranus and Neptune.
  • Exact Words: In the Viz dub, after Minako asks if Haruka is her boyfriend, Michiru responds with no. Because she's actually her girlfriend.
  • Goal in Life:
    • Mr. Kameda's one wish is to work on a professional racing team.
    • Michiru states that Haruka once longed to be a professional racecar driver. But Haruka asserts that her new dream is to figure out her reason for existence.
  • Joke and Receive: Rei assumes that their friends are late because they went chasing after a hot guy. While Ami tries to give them the benefit of the doubt, they and Makoto lamentably accept that that was the reason for their absence.
  • Just a Kid: Haruka confidently assures Michiru that Usagi and Minako were just kids and that she wasn't being serious with them.
  • Making a Splash: Sailor Neptune's signature move is an energy ball made from the ocean's depths called Deep Submerge.
  • The Mentor: Haruka cites Mr. Kameda as her mentor when it came to racing and car mechanics.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Played for Laughs. Motoki gets this reaction after seeing how him allowing Minako to take a break from studying will put her at greater risk for failing.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Michiru warns Haruka that she can sense "rough seas" approaching them in the near future.
  • Never Heard That One Before: Michiru happily remarks that Haruka's line about "things changing" has been used hundreds of times to string along innocent maidens.
  • Noodle Incident: Minako tells Motoki the time Artemis gave in to caramel temptations.
  • Not So Above It All: Rei and Makoto get caught up in getting a glimpse of the handsome "boy" Minako was after.
  • Oil Slick: Minako and Usagi end up crashing inside Mr. Kameda's shop after running into some leaked oil.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The normally chill and laidback Motoki shows annoyance when Minako ignores him in favor of Haruka.
  • The Reveal: The two strangers who've been attacking the Daimons are revealed to be Sailors Uranus and Neptune.
  • Running Gag: Minako reminding Usagi that she already has Mamoru.
  • Safety Gear Is Cowardly: Subverted with Steering. After being wiped out by Haruka's motorcycle, Steering thinks to herself that she's glad to have worn her helmet and goggles.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: The Daimon of the Week has a habit of saying car themed sound effects out loud.
  • Sinister Car: Haruka's car is transformed into the Racecar Daimon: Steering.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Minako would rather spend her time playing arcade games then go to Rei's house to study like she promised.
    • Later she and Usagi would spend the rest of the day wanting to learn more about the mysterious Haruka.
  • Sneeze Cut: After Usagi thinks to herself on how Minako has been hard on her like Rei, she sneezes in her study room.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Steering grows large spikes on her tires when preparing to attack.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Usagi is a middle school girl but she's easily enamored by Haruka and wants her attention even though she already has a boyfriend.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Minako isn't very thrilled to know that her future boyfriend is actually a girl who's already spoken for.
