“Who are you? Are you a Sailor Guardian? Did you just say that Chibi-usa's mind is in danger? What do you mean by that? Don't worry Chibi-usa. Have faith in us! Because all of us will protect you no matter who is after you. We'll see to it that you never get hurt! In the Name of the Moon, we'll protect you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "The Secret Of The Luna Sphere")

Chibi-usa ends up sick in bed and is cursed with nightmares about her ruined home along with a ghostly Droid who's out to kill her. With no clue as how to help the poor child, the girls receive help from the Guardian of Time and Space.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Bittersweet Ending: The Guardians succeed in saving Chibi-usa from the Malefic Black Crystal, but the girl becomes crushed after Sailor Pluto informs her that she can't go to the future.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Jakoku is the first Droid that does not resemble a conventionally attractive woman.
  • Call-Back: Chibi-usa recalls Sailor Pluto and Mamoru assuring her that Sailor Moon and her friends are strong and trustworthy.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Accepting that Sailor Moon will protect her, Chibi-usa's belief in her gives her the strength to overpower Jakoku.
  • Damsel in Distress: Chibi-usa's mother was attacked by the Black Moon Clan and placed into a deep sleep. She now resides in the Crystal Palace which is surrounded by the enemy's barriers.
  • Declaration of Protection: Usagi monologues to herself in the end that she'll protect Chibi-usa, the Silver Crystal, and the future that has yet to come.
  • Dub Name Change: Jakoku becomes “the Grim Man”.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode starts with Chibi-usa being chased by the Reaping Droid who intends to take her to the future.
  • Evil Counterpart: To contrast the Silver Crystal, the Black Moon Clan wields a Malefic Black Crystal as the source of their power.
  • Ghastly Ghost: Jakoku resembles a cloaked phantom who can fly and chases little children with a Sinister Scythe.
  • Ground-Shattering Landing: The Droid uses his scythe to create a giant hole in the ground that Sailor Moon and Chibi-usa almost fall in.
  • Hope Springs Eternal: Wiseman warns the royal court that as long as the Silver Crystal exists, then there's always a chance that the Malefic Black Crystal will be destroyed.
  • In Medias Res: The plotline with the heroes starts with everyone being worried over Chibi-usa's sudden illness.
  • Internal Reveal: The girls get a glimpse of what Crystal Tokyo looks like along with the current state of the future queen.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: With Pluto's help, the Inner Guardians enter Chibi-usa's mindscape to save her from the Reaping Droid.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: When the heroes first see Chibi-usa, the little girl refuses to associate with them believing that they're strangers. Ami suggest that they're seeing a memory version of Chibi-usa who hasn't met them yet.
  • Mind Rape: Apparently the Malefic Black Crystal is directly targeting Chibi-usa by sending Jakoku to terrorize her mindscape. The longer it persists, then the child's mind would fall apart from the suffering.
  • Now, Let Me Carry You: Minako comments on how it's their turn to save Chibi-usa to thank her for helping them escape Rubeus' clutches.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Saphir, Prince Demande's blue little brother, openly insists that they stop wasting time going back to the past to change history when their Malefic Black Crystal is powerful enough to take over the fallen Crystal Tokyo.
  • The Reveal: Chibi-usa's friend Puu is revealed to be Sailor Pluto.
  • Sinister Scythe: Jakoku carries a giant scythe as his weapon.
  • Time Police: Pluto admits that she is the one charged with protecting the Door of Time and Space.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Pluto lamentably informs Chibi-usa that she can't return home just yet as the enemy is still planning to attack the 21st Century.
