Recap / SMG4's Mario Bloopers Mario Waits For The Bus

Go To

Mario just wants to catch the bus... but it never arrives :(

Mario wants to go to the Spaghetti Carnival, but the bus is nowhere in sight, and it's driving him coo-coo crazy. Can Meggy help teach him the virtue of patience?

  • Aesop Amnesia: A surprising aversion by Swag. He apparently knows that it's pointless to try to shoot immortal beings with bullets, and initially refuses to attempt to deal with them.
  • Alternate Catchphrase Inflection: Usually, Meggy says "that's very illegal" when she's getting serious. When responding to Mario's cringe worthy tone, however, she says this catchphrase with a nervous tone.
  • Call-Back: Apparently Swag has learned that you can't just take care of immortal beings with mere bullets.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The next bus was delayed by Shroomy being attacked by a bear. When Mario called Swag for help to fight the Watchers, it turned out that he was the one driving the bus, and he gleefully runs over Shroomy and the bear to join the action.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Meggy is able to put up a good fight against the Watchers, knocking down several at once. Too bad they're immortal.
  • Dartboard of Hate: SMG0 has apparently become so notorious that one of the attractions at the One Eyed Monster Carnival is throwing rocks at pictures of Zero.
  • Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Mario, Meggy, Luigi, and Swag end up going to a one-eyed monster carnival with the cycloptic guardians of spacetime to appease them after Luigi accidentally pisses them off while trying to speed up the wait for the bus.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Luigi goes forward in time, but goes too far. Then the time guardians punish him for manipulating time.
  • Irony: At the One Eyed Monster carnival, there's an attraction where players can throw rocks at pictures of SMG0, a one eyed monster.
  • Manchild: Mario throws a massive tantrum when Meggy takes back her phone after letting Mario watch some memes.
  • Oculothorax: The Watchers are depicted as one-eyed Cacodemons with the same green hat and bowtie as Topper from Super Mario Odyssey. There's even a whole carnival devoted to these sorts of creatures.
  • Running Gag: Shroomy being attacked by a bear, which becomes a plot point when they end up blocking the path of the next bus.
  • Serial Escalation: For the fourth year in a row, the first episode of the year has a mundane situation involving Mario snowballing into something ridiculous.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Turns out the "Spaghetti Carnival" (which is actually a tiny spaghetti cart) was right next to the bus stop the whole time. Mario snaps his own neck when he finds out.
  • Shooting Superman: Swagmaster defies this, as he's learned that immortal beings like The Watchers don't die to bullets.
  • Smart Ball: Swag knows about the time guardians and that shooting them is pointless. When Mario mentions the Spaghetti Carnival, he gets the idea to take them to a One Eyed Monster Carnival, which works.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Going forward in time doesn't mean that it changes the perceptions of those you didn't take with you. This is demonstrated when Luigi fast-forwards time for Mario, but Mario and Meggy don't notice any changes apart from what's happening to Luigi in real time.
