Recap / SM G4s Mario Bloopers Doomsday But Mario Is Okay

Go To

Mario and friends get ready for the end of the world

As Chris and Swagmaster prepare to take out Zero's USB with a nuke, the Glitchy Gang hunkers down in a doomsday bunker while trying to keep Mario safe. But technical difficulties with the bomb leave the gang waiting for hours, and they can only put up with each other for so long...

  • All for Nothing: After an entire episode of wacky hijinks with the gang driving each other up the wall while waiting for Chris and Swag to detonate a nuke on the USB, the castle finally gets blown to smithereens in the end...but the USB remains totally intact. Also, said hijinks distracted everyone long enough for SMG0 to grab Mario along with Axol.
  • Bait-and-Switch: While watching the bedlam breaking out in the bunker that's noticeably Mario-free, Tari alerts everyone of a huge problem...that they forgot to tell Luigi about the detonation.
  • Butt-Monkey: Fishy Boopkins is pretty much mistreated or freaked out by everyone but Tari and Melony for the whole episode.
  • Downer Ending: Not only does the nuke fail to put a dent on the USB, but most of the Glitchy Gang are now at each other's throats, and Axol and Mario have disappeared down a wormhole of 1s and 0s in the bunker toilet, a surefire indicator that SMG0 has Mario in its grasp.
  • Feud Episode: One of the episode's subplots involves Mario and Meggy fighting over a bar of chocolate belonging to Boopkins, and Saiko trying to keep them from clobbering each other. The episode ends without either of them making up, as Mario vanishes while Meggy's gnawing Saiko's hand off for the bar.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: It's hard to fault Peach for sabotaging the nuke's transceiver. While it's ultimately for the greater good in destroying SMG0's USB, there's still the problem that her castle is going to be unavoidably destroyed in an attempt that might not even work...which is exactly what ended up happening.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Luigi barely survives a point blank explosion from the nuke, reducing him to a skeleton. His response?
    Luigi: Owww…
  • Mythology Gag: Mario uses Fishy Boopkins to shoot a spike ball at Meggy. This makes sense because Fishy Boopkins uses the Spike model.
  • Never Trust a Title: The title and thumbnail suggest that Mario is keeping himself safe while the world is destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. In the episode, the only thing that gets affected by the nuke is Peach's castle, and Mario is most definitely not okay by the end as he gets taken by Zero.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: SMG4 stresses the importance of keeping Mario safe at all costs at the beginning of the episode, as he is the world's Avatar whose death will spell doom for their dimension. After that, mounting tensions from being cooped in the bunker for hours causes so much petty bickering between everyone that Mario's wellbeing never crosses their minds, even after he's spirited away through a portal along with Axol.
  • Not So Above It All: Meggy scolds Mario for stealing Boopkins' chocolate, then gives into the temptation almost immediately.
  • Nuke 'em: After exhausting all other options trying to destroy SMG0's USB hovering over Peach's castle, Chris and Swag are left with no other option but to detonate a nuke in front of the castle door. It doesn't work.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tari realizing that they had completely forgotten to inform Luigi about the nuke, leaving him to get injured by it.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Rather than help save Swag from Peach's wrath for trying to nuke her castle, Chris sits back on a beach chair and snacks on popcorn while she beats Swag to a pulp.
  • Something We Forgot: While most of the gang is at each other's throats, Tari realizes that they forgot Luigi.
  • Time Out: Saiko puts Mario and Meggy into this to stop them from fighting. It doesn't work as they keep up their feud from a distance until they go back to brawling.
  • Token Good Teammate: Tari, as always. In the midst of the chaos, she doesn't go out of her way to annoy or hurt anyone like everyone else, comforts people who are sad (mainly Boopkins), and is concerned for Luigi when she realizes they forgot him.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Upon Swag pressing the nuke activation button and nothing happening, his and Chris's immediate reaction is to walk up to and inspect the bomb close-up. Swag even kicks it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By hijacking the remote detonator for the nuke, Peach caused the gang to remain stuck underground for the whole episode, giving Zero enough time to abduct Mario.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: SMG4 cements everyone in the shelter to keep anyone from escaping before the bomb blows up.
