Recap / Runescape Rocking Out

Go To

Rabid Jack. That name has come up behind two other major problems thus far, but no one will talk about him. But if you ask Bill Teach, and tell him how important it is, he'll point you towards someone who can- Young Ralph, who is unfortunately currently incarcerated in The Rock, a prison for pirates run by customs officials.

After getting yourself incarcerated to speak to him (it's okay, your cell has a big hole in the wall and you can escape whenever you want) and get Ralph to pay attention to you (he's deaf, but capable of lip-reading) via the use of an accordion, pipe, and a very annoyed seagull. Young Ralph won't tell you the story until you have the marks of all five pirate captains who were originally at Jack's defeat, and swore an oath to never speak of him again.

To get the marks, you'll have to do a short task for each of the five captains- Captain Braindeath (who lied about not knowing Rabid Jack during Rum Deal), Captain Bill Teach, Captain Brass Hand Harry, Captain Izzy No-Beard (who runs the Brimhaven Agility Arena), and Redbeard Frank (standing in for his deceased captain, One-Eyed Hector). Once you have the marks and show them to Young Ralph, he'll tell you the story.

Rabid Jack was once an infamous pirate who laid siege to Mos Le'Harmless. He failed, but afterwards began terrorizing the eastern seas. He's why the customs office is so hard on piracy, since they now associate all pirates with Rabid Jack, whose acts were egregious even by pirate standards. He made a base on a cursed archipelago, betting that the others would be too afraid to confront him, but they weren't. A pirate armada lead by the Captains you got marks from attacked him, sunk the other ships in his fleet (where Captain Donnie and Mi-Gor were), and a cannonball that Ralph fired killed his first mate and severely injured Jack himself. However, before the others could kill him, he declared that his name would forevermore be a curse to them, and jumped off the ship to his apparent death. The captains swore an oath to never speak his name again, in hopes that he'd just fade away into history, but he's back.

After another kitten cutscene, it's quest complete.

Tropes

  • Cardboard Prison: The Rock. While the prison it was based on, Alcatraz, was indeed very secure (naming a trope because of it) and only saw one breakout during its operational lifetime, The Rock has a hole in the wall on one of its cells, pickable locks, and the swim to the mainland is easily accomplished. You break out and back in several times over the course of the Quest.
  • The Dreaded: Rabid Jack.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: A serious version of the trope, with the pirates' oath to never speak of Rabid Jack.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: Heavy-Handed Harry, who imprisons you in the one cell with no outer wall and shouts down his subordinate's attempts to talk sense into him.
  • The Scottish Trope: The pirates are afraid to speak Rabid Jack's name.
