To Salve or Not to Salve
After Stimpy is tricked into buying a expensive vacuum cleaner, Ren tries to stop Stimpy from buying cans of salve from a persistent salesman.
A Yard Too Far
A starving Ren and Stimpy are lured to a plate of hog jowels (pig faces), but the Pipes' ferocious pet baboon stands in the way.
The Salve or Not to Salve contains examples of...
- Anthropomorphic Food: Somehow the salesman turns himself into a slice of toast at one point.
- Dem Bones: The vacuum sucks up everything including Ren's skin, his organs, his brain and finally his skeleton.
- Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Ren: "MUST! SAVE! THE BRAIIIIIIN!!"
- Snake Oil Salesman: The salesman shows that salve has many uses, such as hair gel, dish soap, a wig, a spread for toast and toilet paper. While it appears to do the job, salve in reality is just a medical ointment.
A Yard Too Far contains examples of...
- Angry Guard Dog: Genre Savvy Ren assumes there's one guarding the jowels, so he asks Stimpy to check first. Stimpy says there's no dog, so Ren hops over the fence... and gets mauled.Stimpy: There's no dog, but there's a baboon.
- Animal Sweet on Object: The baboon falls in love and later marries a female baboon puppet that Ren used to distract him.
- Follow Your Nose: The scent of hog jowels leads Ren and Stimpy to the Pipes' house.
- Nerves of Steel: Mr. and Mrs. Pipe take turns routinely getting mauled by the baboon according to Mr. Pipe.
- Nothing but Skin and Bones: Ren plays this straight, but Stimpy tells and shows Ren that he's nothing but skin and fat.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Ren and Stimpy wear an unconvincing disguise of Mrs. Pipe, but Mr. Pipe falls right for it.
- Shout-Out: The entire short is based on a old Yogi Bear cartoon called "Pie Pirates".
