Mordecai tries to get a kiss from Margaret on the night of a meteor shower, but his fears literally turn the romantic night cold.
Tropes included:
- Big Damn Kiss: Even more so than in "Picking Up Margaret", as it represents Mordecai and Margaret's Relationship Upgrade.
- Cannot Spit It Out: The episode makes pretty clear that Mordecai's main obstacle is his own shyness and fear.
- Just Friends: Discussed. Rigby warns Mordecai that if he doesn't make his move they'll never pass from this, the dreaded friend zone.
- Negated Moment of Awesome: Deconstructed. The Guardian of The Friend Zone shows Mordecai the various moments where he had a great opportunity to kiss Margaret (or at least tell her how he felt about her) but didn't.
- No Antagonist: Although it can be argued that the Guardian of the Friend Zone is one, the episode makes very clear that the main obstacle for a Mordecai and Margaret is their own shyness and insecurity.
- Official Couple: Mordecai and Margaret officially become this at the end of the episode, and remain like this until their breakup on Steak Me Amadeus, and their possible reunion in "Merry Christmas, Mordecai".
- Relationship Upgrade: Mordecai and Margaret finally become more than friends.
- Shout-Out: The Friend Zone is one to the Phantom Zone of Superman II.
- Wham Episode: After four seasons of Will They or Won't They?, Mordecai and Margaret finally get their Relationship Upgrade.
- What If?: This is why Mordecai keeps on hesitating to admit his true feelings for Margaret out of fear that she may not like him as a love interest.
