"We're not gonna take it!"

Written by Sean Szeles & Dennis Messner

When Benson takes the park workers out for a night at a karaoke bar, Mordecai and Rigby must keep the bar owner from showing a video of the duo singing while intoxicated and making disparaging remarks about the other workers.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Air-Vent Passageway: Mordecai and Rigby crawl through the vents to get to the room with the tapes.
  • Bar Brawl: When trying to get the tape back, a bar fight breaks out after Carl punches Skips and in return Skips punches him into a table.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The tape gets destroyed when Benson throws it in the face of the owner, after the former punched him after Benson unknowingly picked up the tape. However, Benson got more injured in the chaos Mordecai and Rigby caused and is pissed with the two for ruining karaoke night and vows to find out what was on the tape (though its never revealed if he does), before abandoning Mordecai and Rigby at the Karaoke Place.
  • Bouncer: Carl.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Mordecai and Rigby try to get Benson to cancel karaoke night, especially after being banned from the establishment (obviously without telling Benson that), Benson, thinking that the duo aren't grateful enough for him, decides to make attending mandatory, threatening to fire Mordecai and Rigby if they don't show up. All over not showing up for a night of fun.
  • Dramatic Irony: Mordecai and Rigby think they did pretty good on their karaoke bit, even though they were terrible. The owner even says before showing it that the audience can't do worse than THESE two. And upon first watching the tape, Benson surmises that this might be the reason why Mordecai and Rigby didn't want them to come, because they were embarrassed by their singing.
  • Gilligan Cut: When Mordecai tells Rigby that they'll just ask the karaoke owner for the other copy of the tape performance because they know Benson, Skips, and Pops will be there too see it. And Mordecai adds if the owner says no, they'll just take it anyway. Cut to the karaoke place, with Carl throwing the two out of the place, and the owner telling them that he already said no.
  • Jaw Drop: Mordecai and Rigby have this reaction the next morning when they actually SEE their recorded performance, which shows them trash talking Benson, Skips, and Pops while doing karaoke.
  • MacGuffin: The karaoke tape.
  • Montage: Mordecai and Rigby end up starting a bar fight over possession of a karaoke tape with the owners of the bar while Pops sings "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins.
  • Oh, Crap!: Mordecai and Rigby when Benson wants to take everyone to the same karaoke place that they talked horribly about all of them.
  • Persona Non Grata: After Mordecai and Rigby try to fight the karaoke owner over the tape of the performance and they get kicked out of the place because of it, he says that he doesn't want to see the two back here again, and that they’re banned. Considering that the duo are supposed to be with the rest of the Park workers there that night, and Benson even threatening to fire them if they don't show up there, this only complicates matters.
  • Self-Serving Memory: In their drunken memory, Mordecai and Rigby imagined their performance to have been awesome with stage lights, stage smoke, and being swept off the stage by the audience. Upon watching a recording of the actual video, however, it showed that none of that happened, and Mordecai and Rigby's performance was quite lackluster.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: A bar brawl backed by Pops singing a karaoke version of Footloose.
  • The Unreveal: We don't find out how or even if Mordecai and Rigby insulted Muscle Man and Hi-Five Ghost on tape. That said, it's very likely that they did insult them.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Pops. Him being the only one who signed up for karaoke that night prompted the club owner to show the promo tape that features Mordecai and Rigby, causing them to hijack it and creating a massive fistfight.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Mordecai and Rigby do not remember any of the things they did last night. Of course, this being a kids' show, it's all but stated they were drunk.
