Cloak and Dagger

Directed By: Miles Luna

Reunited and knowing more about both sides, the Reds and Blues decide to try and get the Feds and Rebels to make peace, only to find themselves ambushed and realize there is a sinister third party at play...

List of tropes applying to this episode:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Carolina reveals herself and rescues the Reds and Blues from being executed by Felix, Locus, and their men.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: After exchanging stories on the Feds and Rebels, the Reds and Blues realize it isn't the classic "good vs evil" or Good Republic, Evil Empire scenario. Washington even explains neither side is completely guilt-free, despite the friends they made on both sides, and that the Reds and Blues just got caught up in the middle of it all.
Tucker: But, the rebels aren't bad! Some of them are our friends.
Washington: And we managed to make a few allies within the Federal Army. None of this makes either side any better. The New Republic started this war with extremist attacks on the capitol.
Tucker: (hostile) But only because the government was screwing them!
Grif: (to Tucker, seeing Wash's point) You gotta admit, it sounds kinda like a dick move.
  • The Bus Came Back: It turns out Carolina and Church have been working undercover with the third faction, and they pop up just in time to rescue the Reds and Blues.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When the Reds and Blues notice the alarms have stopped and the soldiers all gone, Caboose asks in confusion if it's lunch time again.
  • Evil All Along: Felix has been working alongside Locus the whole time under some mysterious employer to wipe out the inhabitants of Chorus.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: Simmons realizes that the alarms in the base have suddenly stopped at some point while the Reds and Blues were all talking. When they leave the detention center, they find the entire base a mess and nobody in sight.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The reveal that Felix is working with Locus includes several flashbacks to previous events, shedding new light on Felix's actions or revealing new details.
    • Felix allowed himself to get shot by Locus so he could gain the trust of the Reds and Blues and fish for information from them about their supplies and the whereabouts of Carolina and Epsilon.
    • Felix yelling "Get down!" at the end of "Hit and Run" was a warning to Locus to get down before the bombs blew.
    • Felix discovering the Reds and Blues at Crash Site Bravo before spotting Locus is revealed to be Locus contacting Felix to back off because Control wants them alive. Felix's "Oh no." afterwards was because of this new info, not because he spotted Locus.
  • Wham Episode: Felix is revealed to be Evil All Along, and he and Locus are working for a mysterious third faction that wants to destroy the population of Chorus. Oh, and Church and Carolina are back.
  • Wham Line: From two characters:
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Felix is revealed to have done this back when he first met the Reds and Blues, having purposely allowed Locus to shoot him in the leg so he could gain their trust and gather intel on them easier.
