Seems legit.
Written by: Joe Purdy and Craig Bartlett

Jet and the Propulsion family celebrate their first Halloween. This involves their very strange takes on pumpkin carving, costumes, and haunted houses. Mindy wants to see a witch fly across the moon, which Mitchell rebuffs. Wanting to make Mindy happy, Jet plans a surprise for her involving the Lunar Eclipse.

  • Afraid of Clowns: This episode has a throwaway line about Mitchell thinking clowns are scary.
Mitchell: (trying to pick out a costume) Pirate, no. Clown, too scary.
  • Agent Scully: Mitchell doubts that witches are real, saying that it's all made up.
  • All Witches Have Cats: To go with Jet's witch costume, Sunspot dresses up as a cat.
  • Animation Bump: The animation and colors used during the lunar eclipse scene are breathtaking.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Mitchell doubts that witches are real, yet he believes Jet when he says (in costume) that he's an alien from outer space.
  • Breather Episode: At least in terms of the educational content. There's a brief lesson on lunar eclipses and that's it. The rest of the episode is pure entertainment.
  • Dramatic Irony: Mindy doesn't know that the witch was actually Jet.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Jet at one point calls himself "Cucumber" to keep with the vegetable family naming thing.
  • E = MC Hammer: Sean's "can't fail scientific method formula" to get candy in the least amount of time goes "T = H + C^2" or in Layman's Terms, houses + great costumes = lots of candy.
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Jet dresses up as an alien (albeit a stereotypical green one). And gets away with telling people he is from Bortron 7.
  • Growling Gut: Sean's tummy rumbles due to stomach pain when he's in space.
  • Halloween Costume Characterization: The kids all wear costumes that reflect their personalities:
    • Jet, the local alien, wears an alien costume to conceal his identity even further. He also thought that the costume was a cucumber, showing his eccentricity.
    • Sydney wears a Commander Cressida costume, showing her nerdiness and her love of the titular comic book heroine.
    • Sean wears a Neil Armstrong costume, showing his love of space and adoration of Neil Armstrong.
    • Mindy wears a costume of her teddy bear, Stuffy Bear, showing her innocence and her Animal Motif that involves bears.
    • Mitchell wears a Sherlock Holmes costume, showing his aspiration to be a detective. Sherlock Holmes being a classic literature character also shows Mitchell's love of classic books and desire to be taken seriously.
  • Halloween Episode: A major holiday episode for the show, and the first episode to take place on Halloween and in autumn.
  • Haunted House: Carrot and Celery turn the garage into a haunted house, but it isn't scary because they used Valentine's Day decorations. However, the ominous glowing light and behavior of Carrot and Celery freak Mitchell out.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: Jet's ears leak steam - not because he's angry, but because he's so excited to learn about Halloween. This is also the only instance in the show where steam comes out of someone's ears.
  • Humans Through Alien Eyes: Carrot and Celery considered it apt to use Valentine's Day decorations for their 'haunted' house. To protect their feelings, Jet and co. pretend to be scared.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Sean is in space:
Sean: "Eh, you're right. It is fun! And I'm not even space-sick!"
    (his tummy gurgles.)
    Sean: "Ugh, much."
  • Iris Out: Used at the end of part one. Sunspot breaks the fourth wall by physically grabbing it, shrieking, and then winking before leaving.
  • It's Always Spring: Averted. It's fall in this episode, unlike the rest of the series.
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: Towards the end, the gang calls this the best Halloween ever.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Divided into two parts.
  • Shipper on Deck: Jet stages a witch sighting and invites specifically Mitchell and Mindy to the treehouse to look at it and the harvest moon.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Jet definitely ships Mindy and Mitchell, and in this episode, he gets them to come to the treehouse together so they can look at the red moon together and see Jet (dressed up as a witch) fly across the moon on a broom to fulfill Mindy's wish of wanting to see a witch fly across the moon.
  • Ship Tease: Mindy and Mitchell behave very much Like an Old Married Couple. She playfully teases him when she's proven right about the witch.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Steamrolled Smart Guy: Sean explains clearly to Jet how lunar eclipses work, but Jet doesn't understand. When Celery provides the same exact explanation, Jet understands (probably because they were in space and got close to the moon).
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The main characters go trick-or-treating. At the same time, Mitchell investigates to solve 3 mysteries involving weird-looking pumpkins, a flying saucer, and a green alien head.
    • The weird-looking pumpkins were leftover produce from the supermarket.
    • The saucer was a 'cool toy'.
    • The green alien head was part of Jet's costume.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Jet dresses up as a witch. Witches are usually portrayed as female, and Mindy uses feminine terms when talking about it.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: It reveals that Mitchell is scared of clowns. He considers dressing up as a clown for Halloween, but says it's "too scary".
  • Wink "Ding!": Heard during the Iris Out in Part 1.
  • Wolves Always Howl at the Moon: At the beginning of part 2, Sunspot howls at the moon like a wolf.

Wizard of Something

Jet describes a movie he watched that is obviously The Wizard of Oz (1939)
