Justin competes in a soapbox derby while Porto goes out on his own.
Tropes:
- Adaptation Explanation Extrication: In Carranger, the Rangers didn't use their zords to fight the giant monster because they still didn't have any zords in the episode the battle scene comes from. Here, the Rangers don't have that excuse.
- Alien Abduction: Elgar suggests Porto might've been abducted by aliens only to remember that they are the aliens.
- The Bully: Warren towards Justin for seemingly no reason. It’s revealed at the end he was envious of Justin's high intellect and makes peace with him.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Warren picks on Justin due to being jealous of his intelligence. Thankfully, he changes his tune after Justin rescues him from his runaway kart.
- I Owe You My Life: Justin rescues Warren from his out of control kart after Elgar's bomb caused the engine to short out. It causes the bully to change his tune on Justin and he apologizes for his earlier behavior.
- Not-So-Harmless Villain: Porto is mainly not a frontline badass, but here he grows giant-size and heads an attack on Angel Grove all by himself.
- The Starscream: Zigzagged. Porto strikes out on his own as he feels Divatox and the other pirates don’t appreciate his genius. That said, he never intends to outright overthrow his Queen, likely cause he knows he can’t take her.
- Walk the Plank: Porto's punishment for going AWOL. He tries to object on the grounds that they're in a submarine but Divatox just says he should hold his breath.
