Recap / Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue S1E3 Trial by Fire

Go To

Carter begins to second guess his actions when a civilian gets injured in an explosion.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Chekhov's Lecture: After Carter flunked his obstacle course training, he wanted to know why. Captain Mitchell explained that he was acting on reflex and didn't think things through and left him with a final piece of advice "sometimes the obvious choice is the wrong choice", which left Carter confused. Later, when he found out that putting out the fire first was the right decision, it all made sense to him and helped with fighting the monster.
  • Heroic BSoD: Carter suffers this when a boy got hurt because he didn't help the civilians sooner, instead was ordered to put out the fire first (which would have caused a gas explosion).
  • Skewed Priorities: Zigzagged. From Carter's perspective, saving the civilians was more important than putting out the fire, especially as a little boy got hurt as a result. However, when he discovers there were tanks of inflammable gas at the site, Carter realizes that if he had focused on the civilians instead of the fire, things would've been much worse.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After a little boy ends up getting hurt, Carter blames Captain Mitchell for it happening because he told him to focus on putting out the fire first rather than saving the civilians. He ends up realizing that Mitchell had a reason for having put the fire out when he goes back to the accident site and discovers tanks of inflammable gas.
