Recap / Power Rangers Dino Charge S1E12 Knight After Knights

Go To

After Fury's repeated failures, including his most recent one of losing the Gold Energem that was in his grasp, Sledge commands one of his prisoners, Bones, to remove Fury's bravery as punishment. Bones is then sent to Earth to collect the bravery of the rangers. Meanwhile, Ivan is adjusting to life in the 21st century. Amazed by Kendall's 'sorcery' with the Dino Chargers, and with a fully charged morpher, Ivan sets out to resume his duties as a Knight.

Shelby and the others attempt to convince Ivan to join them, but he replies that such a decision would be for life, and should not be made so hastily. Nevertheless, Shelby says that they are some of the bravest people around, and had it not been for that bravery, Ivan would never have escaped Fury. Conceding her point, Ivan follows her to discuss it with the others.

Unfortunately, Bones and Poisandra have captured the four other rangers and Bones takes the source of their bravery - their backbones. Now too afraid to fight back, Ivan believes the four are mere cowards and refuses once again to join. As he walks around town, he runs into several 'brave' people: a crossing guard who braves the 'giant metal beasts', a street performer with 'dragon's breath' and 'throat of steel', a sports referee, a tuba player, and an elderly woman who fended off a mugger. Ivan leads the 'Knights of Amber Beach into battle against Bones, but the others flee when Poisandra summons the Vivix. Alone, Ivan valiantly fends off the Vivix, but is overwhelmed.

The rangers are too afraid to do anything, so Shelby is forced to help Ivan on her own. Keeper gives the guys a peptalk over how true courage comes from fighting despite fear, and the four are able to regain their backbones. The six rangers reunite, and take down Bones, Ivan and Shelby even combining powers to finish him off.

Later, Ivan decides to recount the tale of the Mysterious Swordsman, and formally agrees to join the Power Rangers.

Tropes:

  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: The Knights of Amber Beach all have something gold on them: the scarf of the street magician, the accents on the vest of the crossing guard, the handbag of the old lady, the tuba of the marching band member and the whistle of the referee.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: The Rangers have this reaction after their backbones are stolen.
  • Ignored Aesop: The episode bungles it's message of "courage isn't fearlessness" by the simple fact that the Rangers' bravery immediately returns to them once they realize Keeper is right instead of actually putting said message into practice by nervously approaching the battlefield for Shelby's sake first. This also defeats the entire logic behind the MOTW note  and renders it harmless in the process.
  • Large Ham: The rangers without their bravery really up the ham levels in this episode.
  • Rousing Speech: Keeper gives one to the guys when they have lost their bravery, telling them they can't let Shelby or Ivan down.
  • Rule of Three: It takes the rangers three attempts to convince Ivan to join.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: There's no way the civilian "knights" are going to take on real monsters...
  • Ship Tease: Some minor Tyler-Shelby teasing as well as Ivan-Shelby.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Poisandra says, "You have got to be joking!" when she sees Sir Ivan leading a ridiculous group of civilians into battle.
